They may need the gemologist to falsely grade a diamond ring higher in some areas to pad the price level from the stone. Though most with the procedures executed with the GIA organization to grade diamonds are standardized, there are particular categories (i.e. color) which are more subjective. GIA tries to circumvent the subjective portion by making use of computer programs to investigate stones and give them the nearest matching grade to that of an previous stone, or having another individual study the stone and provides their grade to see if their opinion is within line with all the initial inspector.
