GameMaps 2.0 - Adding/Editing Content Updates

  • GameMaps (System)
You my have noticed a few changes and updates when editing your content. To get the best results we do recommend you review your maps and mods and make any adjustments you think would improve the quality of your listing. Here are some things worth noting.

*Thumbnail - The primary image that is displayed when browsing content. (unchanged)

*Developer/Publisher - All content creators are automatically credited as the publisher. However do not forget to give credit to the content developers. (Terminology Changed)

*Game Modes - If you feel your map qualifies to be classified under a new mode you may add a new mode in this section. Please see our guide (url below) about the new game mode function.
    https://beta.gamemaps.com/guide/174

*Descriptions - Descriptions are no longer limited and can be as long as youd like. You now have the freedom to express all your desires in the description field.

*Notable Features - You can now input up to 5 notable features to attract the attention of visitors and to improve your download conversion ratio!

*Featured Image - This is a new important update to the Beta. Your details page will now utilize the featured image in the game header. Selecting a good featured image can really improve the appeal and help the download conversion of your content. Give it a try!

*Tags - Much more improved tagging system. Make sure your content is properly tagged to get the most traffic and the highest download conversion. GameMaps Beta will feature an expandable 2nd tier navigation in the near future that will allow users to refine content based even further.

    ___________________________________________

    *Instructions - IN DISCUSSION
We are discussing adding a new "Instructions" option that will allow you to specify any instructions that may be useful for your content. The instructions are completely up to you... They can tell the user how to install, how to play, or even how to get the best results from your content. (If approved/agreed, these instructions can be edited on the same page where you edit your description and notable features.)

    ----
This sums up the adding/editing process and hopefully I was pretty clear.. hah. If you have any issues, problems, questions, feedback or comments, don't hesitate to reply!

  • Hello iLL:

I just uploaded some new screenshots for Left 4 Dead 2.75 and noticed (how could I not) that it forced me to actually re-upload the mod itself, which makes it look like the mod was updated when in fact it was not. This makes me look like a re-uploader and I don't like that. I don't know if this situation is going to be resolved with the new version of gamemaps.com or not, but I hope that it will be.

It is hardly fair to someone who just uploaded a new mod to have their mod moved down the list on the all important front page, just because someone did nothing more than changes some screenshots! And of course, since I intend to release more mods before the end of the year, don't think I haven't thought about the fact I could upload something and have the top spot for only a few seconds because someone uploads new screenshots for one of their OLD mods. This situation has the potential to hurt the popularity of any modders' new mods so I hope it will be addressed in the new version of gamemaps.com.

As always thank you for listening and thank you for taking the time to read this!

  • Hello AlfredENeuman,
Uploading a screenshot should not bump your item to the top of the list. Did this happen on the new beta system? You also said it forced you to re-upload the mod, how did it force you to re-upload? This would definitely be a bug and would be resolved once we confirm and replicate the details.

    Regards

  • Well, I think there is a bug then. I did not use the beta system, as I assume it MIGHT have bugs (no offense.) Now I was able to upload images but it game me no indication that the images were saved. So the only option I seemed to have was to choose update mod or something like that from a menu, and so then I had to do that. Now I kept the version number the same and did explain in my comments that there are new screenshots- I wasn't trying to deceive anyone or anything like that.

By the way, more evidence there is trouble is that someone claims that when they tried to upload a mod called "Enhanced Zoey" 18+ version, it would not allow them to put this into the Mature section. In fact it is currently NOT in the Mature section. Now the images are censored, but the mod most certainly is not.

I'm not pointing fingers at the uploader as it is possible there is a bug. I would respectfully suggest that you look into this issue first, as it is pretty serious isn't it? I mean, if you have a Mature section but people can't put their mods there that is not good! The uploader claimed they were unable to tag it Mature. I obviously have no idea if they are telling the truth or not.

  • Hello AlfredENeuman,
Why your hesitant to use the beta is understandable. However, for the current live website we are not really focusing on doing any improvements here because our primary focus is to work on the beta and get it stable enough to open to the rest of the members. I don't anticipate the beta will take much longer to stabilize as we are making good progress.

I would like to ask if you could test and utilize the beta more often moving forward so we can catch and improve any bugs you may encounter. Our goal is to have the beta fully released by the end of the year and we are putting in all our efforts to achieving this goal.

If you could provide URLS or ID# for content that you feel should be corrected that would be very helpful. The mature section works, but there is a conflict if you assign regular tags and then try to assign mature tag after. You are only able to select mature if no other tags are selected. The interface in the beta will make this situation easier to understand and manage. In the meantime I can manually update any discrepancies.

    Regards!

  • Alright, that is valuable information and thanks for the speedy response.

I'm planning an update to Left 4 Dead 2.75 and intend to release it on Halloween IF it is ready by then, but I don't know if it will be.

However, I will for sure be releasing some mods on Halloween and some others besides those mods before the end of the year. I suppose I could try to upload them using the beta version of the website.

Just so I'm not misunderstanding, you are saying even though the beta site isn't online yet that I can upload mods using the beta site that would end up on gamemaps.com?

If that is the case, of course I'll try the beta version. I didn't know how "operational" the beta website was so I never considered trying that.

  • Hello AlfredENeuman,
That is correct, anything you upload, update or do on the beta version will also appear on GameMaps.com live site. You are able to use the beta version as a replacement and nothing will be lost during the official release. The beta has many improvements over the current live site.

If there are situations that are making you want to use the live gamemaps.com instead of the beta, please let us know so we can improve the beta and your perception.

    Regards!
