Expert Realism Custom Maps Player in Left 4 Dead 2. Big fans of zombies shooting game. Love playing with friends with similar interests. Thanks for visiting my profile x)
While it's still fresh in mind. So I have tried this map twice, the initial version was rather questionable for expert realism gameplay, but after the changes and some polishings, I can safely tell you that we have another, hands down, new custom map in the top 20 entry, heck it might even go onto top 10, if Kvonthe, aka the author continues to polish and make minor changes based on the feedback. At least even at this moment I feel like playing it again. Before you continue, this review might contain spoiler.
--Gameplay (4.5 stars)--
Based on ver 0.3
- Experience is definitely one of a kind
- Supplies are well-scattered and definitely rewards scavenger, still can't comment much about the adequacy 'cause I feel like there's still some hidden supplies we didn't manage to find
- Ending with Gauntlet is always a blast! Especially the ending here really ends well, after all the hustle and finally escaping out from the castle, always nice to have a princess waiting for you on the rescue vehicle
- Slightly spawning in line of sight problem but in general, not very severe
- Many tanks fight are well placed and intense enough to make it challenging but yet not impossible, can't say so for witches though
--Visual & Structure (Almost 5 stars)--
- Great atmosphere and visuals, the castle, lighting everything really makes you feel like you're heading towards a castle to venture
- Very neat structure and great navigation
- A lot of details are taken care of, like those inaccessible spots are placed with dead piles of bodies, or doors that are blocked by objects that blend in the surroundings
- Theme is consistent throughout the whole campaign
Visually, this map is decent. Since the whole map only finale has pipe bomb and bile, and the map call them something else, would be cool to have some sort of custom skins on those items.
--Events & Scripts (4.0 stars)--
If there's anything that I say is lacking would be the events and scripts
- Brilliant idea to have Zoey, aka the princess to be in one of the prisons, more hinting and writing about Zoey's story inside the castle would be great
- If we didn't manage to open the prison in chapter 3 to release Zoey and it produces another alternate ending that would be amazing, or randomized Zoey location in one of the prison room to increase replayability
- One of the events where you have to go down from the fence to the village, and the moment you land, it triggers a horde, I feel like to justify the trigger of the horde, if there's some sort of trap or things like maybe bell, alarms etc. it would make the trigger of the horde much more logical
There are so much cool stuff that is possible with this map if it has some cool scripts, like making some explosions events in the finale to make it more intense, burning happening or the change of sky color when the survivors come out of the castle, Zoey being able to follow us till the saferoom etc. Those are not easy to implement, but for a map that's only built by one person, it's amazingly well-made I'll have to give him that.
--Bugs & Errors (4.5 stars)--
- Didn't find much major bug or errors
- I did crash once in the 4th chapter though, still not sure which of my mods or what caused it
Actually I've been waiting for this map to release for a very long time, so many times I pm Kvothe to check with him of the progress of the map, and I was really excited for this one, and surely it doesn't disappoint. Great map my friend, will play again. ;)
Shine Guy, i will only made another update after some time. I'll wait for more and more feedback. Its hard to just please all community. Everyone want a different thing. I also have a better soundtrack on mind, im just studing the better music for the better map. Now, about the gameplay. The witchs, i think, works as a barrier for some players. I puted some of in closed areas to make the team think on a way trough they. Many others are spawned randomly. In this case i dont have control at all. About the custom skins for bile and pipe... I know a guy, if he help me, maybe i can put some new stuff, not only this, but custom weapons as well. But its just a teory, nothing concrete. About the events and scripts... dude, this map was made to be impossible, and on the old version there was many events. But they incriase the chances of crash. I dont know how to deal with scripts, but a friend of mine did it for me, and only provoke more crash. So, i reformulated the whole campaign for a linear play trough, with rare events but a long, long walk. The kind of map that i like. Well, thank for you support and tips on the first version.
