Recent Updates (Notifications, Subscriptions, Feedback)

  • GameMaps (System)
In addition to fixing a handful of bugs and community requests we have completed some notable features.

    -----
    - Subscriptions -
When you are subscribed to another member they will appear in your 'Subscriptions' list located in the 'my account' area. You can now view the latest releases and discussions created from your subscriptions. We also added a History tab so you can track the events as they unfold.

    -----
    - File Details -
Mature content is now completely disabled (browsing & details pages) unless you complete the age verification check. Anything tagged 'mature' will always contain an alert bar at the top of the page.
    -
You can now post feedback and reply to feedback from the files details page in the beta. Keep in mind we still have a handful of new features and functions that will be added to the details page soon.

    -----
    - Notifications -
We have completed a handful of notifications to alert you when something has happened. Currently when someone sends you a new message, your subscriptions have activity or when file updates are available you will be notified. You will also be notified when official news has been released.

We are not finished with notifications yet. Some of the most requested notifications are coming next! You will soon be notified when someone has posted feedback on your content or when someone has replied to your forum topics.

    -----
    - Forward Looking News -

At this time a very small handful of users (less than 10) were invited to test out this beta platform. We greatly appreciate all your feedback and in the next week or two are are planning on opening the beta to all members!

As we go into next week, we are currently working on allowing users to add and manage 'new' games to the platform, improve the users watchlist (request), and add/fix a bunch of other requests mentioned in the "In-depth feedback and suggestions." topic post. In addition, as mentioned above, we're adding more notifications options and adding additional features to the file details page.

As always, thanks for supporting GameMaps.

  • A few things to point out.
"In addition to fixing a handful of bugs and community requests we have completed some notable features."
Please post what bugs did you fix so we can test if this bugs are gone.

"When you are subscribed to another member..."
I subscribed to a member and all content that this member added have being counted in red circle. Red circle had 190 number. Is this intentional or a bug? If user posted a lot of content then it could go up to 500.

"...in the next week or two are are planning on opening the beta to all members!"
I highly suggest not to do that until you fix bugs and problems that I posted in my "In-depth feedback and suggestions." topic. When you fix them and then go live with beta then you will know if people are still having those bugs.
Also remember that there are still some members who are very much unwanted in this community. All the negativity and saltiness they bring will flood forum, and instead of getting feedback you will have to deal with this situations. And if Trunten is right about the size of Gamemaps team then I think you may not have enough people to maintain this kind of behaviors in this community.

Sure, we will do our best to provide more transparency on minor edits and bug fixes.

Hello, the red circle notification will only appear the first time because the user is already in your subscriptions. When you subscribe to a new user, it shouldn't do this though. It should notify you individually for actions thereafter.

We actually have a plan to review all the bugs as mentioned in this thread. We have already fixed a handful of them and will continue to analyze the rest of the topic. This is one of our top priorities.

We will review this as situations unfold. Right now we are still setting up the foundation to handle each unique situation appropriately.

    ---
Although our team may be small in comparison to larger corporations, our team is some of the most experienced in the entire industry. We have the ability to achieve big goals that can match or exceed competitors. Keep in mind, the current GameMaps has no advertising, no VIP and is 100% non profit. However, we also have enough funding to ensure development progresses to achieve our goals. Once GameMaps is officially stable and released, we will be hiring additional team members in various departments. This is just the beginning.

    Appreciate the feedback!
    Regards

  • Greenhood's right. Just ask Rayman... how almost every single day I have comments to report.
    Mostly from abusive harassing guests.
Want a good example? I missed one on "ZMB-13" from March 2019, replying to me from November 2018.
And Jason... ill, whatever you prefer...
Greenhood's probably referring more to moderation when he referenced me.
For clarity that is what I meant. We need more dedicated moderators.
In my experiences, I can only send messages to Rayman, who always appears offline, and sit and wait.
Also takes him time to do his job in the Steam community.

  • Sheriff Huckleberry, also known as "Herbius"... is a prime example.
He's had multiple duplicate accounts banned, however, not his main account.
And yes, Rayman would know there's plenty of evidence against him, both here and Steam community.

  • greenhood, thank you for remembering and referencing me.
I'm glad I'm not alone with my concerns for the future of this site.

  • Trunten, yes, I was talking about moderation. I think that going live with Gamemaps 2.0 without dedicated moderator will be hard for Gamemaps team to deal with everything that happens in comments, reviews, forum and at the same time making progress with the site.
And I think that one or two weeks may not be enough time to do everything iLL said. They need to fix the most important problems, add new necessary features, fix bugs and then let us test them. IMO I would say a month at least.

I personally believe that this site has still potential to be good. Its just that there are important issues that needs to be dealt with first and I hope that Gamemaps team will fix them before going live for everyone.

Another question to iLL. On top of the topic there is this blue button with bell icon. If I want to receive notification then the icon is suppose to be with crossed line or without that line?

  • Administration and moderation should've been the number one top priority above all else.
They already struggle enough with that currently as it is now.
Just ask Ray, almost everyday I have to go to him about idiot guests abusing that feature.
Who thought it'd be a great idea to let guests comment?
Makes social ban pointless, they can log out of their account and get away as a guest sometimes.
Even with guests on the social ban that only prevents activity on your own content.
Oh, that reminds me, apparently they can't track guests by IP address.
Yet another reason it needs to go away.
If someone logs out of their account to be an abusive harassing troll as a guest it can't be tracked.
So much else that's way more important than a "new design" and I feel it's going to be overlooked.
Oh well. Actions will speak louder than words.

This button will allow you to receive notifications when the topic has a new reply. When the bell has a line through it, it means the notifications are off. Without the line means it is on... We will make this a lot clearer to understand because I can see why it can be hard to understand at first glance. Forum notifications are in progress and may not be fully functional until tomorrow.

We have decided that all interactive features will require a membership on the beta moving forward. Guests will no longer be able to interact or use social features. This new restriction will be implemented shortly. (we may or may not allow publishers to explicitly adjust this setting)

  • You sound like you are contradicting yourself.
If interaction is going to require a membership... then guest commenting shouldn't exist at all.
Allowing or not allowing publishers to adjust the setting wouldn't make sense.
We'd just be right back where we started, in my opinion.
Unless you're referring to if guest commenting is still going to exist but disabled by default.
But then it still leaves the concern for those who turn it on and then later decide to leave the community.

  • Guest accounts can no longer interact with the beta. (This is no longer optional) We will adjust the social bans to reflect this shortly.

  • Not sure what you could "adjust" regarding guests and social bans unless it's what I already brought up.
But regardless my points still stand, it needs to be disabled by default and should be reflected globally.
What I mean is, once you make the change, it needs to be universal, obviously.
Guests should no longer by able to continue freely commenting / abusing the feature everywhere.
Honestly I still feel it needs to be completely removed, but you do whatever, sir, it's your site.
Yet here we are, you want feedback from others... and ask Rayman, you'd get plenty of it from me.
Funny thing is, it's mostly just minor oversights... they just seem major since the moderation is lacking.
    With all due respect.
Just see potential in the community, it's still there... you just need a better team or improve what you do have.
There, I said it. Take it however you want... you wanted feedback and criticism and I gave it.

  • @Trunten
Guests can not post comments, interact, vote or do anything on the beta. It doesn't need to be disabled by default, because its disabled completely. Its not optional. The ability has been completely removed.

"Not sure what you could "adjust" regarding guests and social bans unless it's what I already brought up."

We need to remove the 'guest' option from social bans because its now irrelevant. We will be removing this option completely because its no longer optional. There is no point in having a guest ban option in social bans, so this page needs to be adjusted.
