  • Btw, will there be future updates for review feature? I noticed that the "Featured Recent Reviews" was no longer visible. Back then on the old gamemaps, this feature could be used by visitors & members to see recently reviewed maps/ mods & at the same time as a promotional purpose for maps/ mods that got new reviews. Probably adding this feature again on the main page of each game section would be useful for visitors & members to see which maps/ mod worth a try. & when clicking one of reviews from the featured recent reviews, visitors/ members will be directed to the review section of the map/ mod containing all reviews about that map/ mod (like when clicking "View All Reviews").

& another thing about review is the capability of browsing all reviews. For now, we can browse all maps, mods, guides etc simply by pointing the mouse/ touching the phone screen on "Maps"/ "Mods" etc, but there's no section to browse reviews independently yet. Currently, we can only browse reviews of certain mod by entering that mod's page & click "View All Reviews" but that's limited only on that mod, not on all maps & mods. If there's a new sub section about reviews where we can browse all reviews independently & set the sort method based on whether they're reviews on maps or mods, & the rate of reviews, probably that would be helpful for visitors & members who want to read some reviews first before giving a try on some maps/ mods, & at the same time this also helps map & mod authors promote their works when reviews about their works show up there.

Well, I think those are the suggestions I have in mind for now. I hope that they could be useful for future improvements.

  • Btw somehow I found something strange about the search feature. It showed like this when I tried to search "flamethrower":

When I switched to "Search with Google", it showed the results on google but the number of result is still 0, like this:

Normally the mods related to "flamethrower" should begin to populate the search result by Gamemaps, but this remained 0 result. I wonder if this a bug on the browser I used or bug from gamemaps (I regularly use this browser to upload a mod though).

  • This must be a bug, when I try to replicate this situation I am not able to do so.

If you have another browser to test with you can see if the results are different. If your able to replicate how you got to 0 results it can help us identify the issue. In the meantime, flamethrower is showing 3 results here! I also installed the Opera browser and tested again.

  • @kurochama Yes the reviews will be featured and promoted on GameMaps again. We were waiting to see how the reviews system handled before we started to promote them. We appreciate the feedback and the idea to browse reviews will be considered. We have a lot in development right now, but rest assured reviews will get time to shine soon enough. 👍️

  • I tested with opera browser from my phone just now, & it showed similar 0 result.

& when I tested to use "Search with Google", it showed result but the number still showed 0 result. I haven't tested firefox yet.

The previous version of search feature that had options "Everything", "Maps" & "Mods" never showed 0 result like this when the keywords were correct & items were available, so probably this happened just recently.

  • A new update for the problem on search feature. I found something interesting. Search feature Firefox seems to work properly.

The interesting thing is when I used search feature before & after login, with the same opera browser:
    ----------

    (Before login)

    (After login)
    ----------
When I just tested right after opening a browser (before login), the search results showed without problem. But after login, I tested again & it showed 0 result. I wonder if there''s a bug on the search algorithms or something else, as the keywords used were same.

EDIT: I think I might figure out what caused 0 result. I tried to clear all cookies, caches etc on the browser & then searched "flamethrower" again & the results showed. But after some time, it would return to 0 result again, & might need to delete cookies etc again.

  • Btw there's a simple suggestion I have in mind. It's about sort method during browsing mods or maps. Currently there are only 3 sort methods: Recent, Popular, Discover. Somehow I have an idea like this:

On the edited picture above, I added 4 more sort methods: "Most Rated", "Most Comments", "Alphabetical" & "Custom" (sorry, the "Discover" was buried by the edited picture by accident). So the sort methods would be like this:
    1. Recent : This sorts based on recently updated/ uploaded mods.
    2. Popular : As far as I know, this only sorts based on most viewed, because the rating is still scrambled..
    3. Discover : Actually I'm still not sure about how this works.
    4. Most Rated : If "Popular" can't sort the rating, this will sort the rating. The functions probably would work like this = the functions/ algorithms scan for rating score, & then sort it from the highest score to the lowest score (unrated). The mods/ maps with 0 rating score/ unrated will be sorted based on most viewed..
    5. Most Comments : This will sort from the most comments to the lowest or no comment.
    6. Alphabetical : This will sort in alphabetical order.
    7. Custom : This will sort based on the keywords the visitor/ members input. This will open a new page (like when choosing "Advanced Search") but it's an "Advanced Browsing" instead, or just a smaller pop-up window. on "Advanced Browsing" page, the other sort methods are available, with the addition of "Keyword Filter" as the custom inputs. So to put it simply, "Custom" sort method is the available sort methods + "Keyword Filter". The custom inputs can include "-" as the exclusion command to exclude certain word/ string (for examples: "-only", "-kurochama", "-m60" etc). So for the simple example, if on the "Custom" sort method a visitor/ member chooses "Recent" + "Keyword Filter" "-only -kurochama -m60", then the results will display recent mods/ maps without the words "only", "kurochama", "m60" in them, no matter if it's a title, author's name, item description, tag etc (functions/ algorithms will scan all words/ strings & exclude any mods/ maps that have those words detected from the displayed results). But if the visitor/ member chooses "Recent" + "Keyword Filter" "m60", the results will display only mods that have "m60" word in them no matter if the word exists on author's name, title, item description, tag etc, & those mods are sorted based on recently updated/ uploaded.

Well, if those suggested sort methods can be added, I think the visitors & members can browse the maps/ mods more accurately & more effectively, & at the same time they will have more choices to choose on the sort methods. Well, I think those are all suggestions I have for now. I hope that these suggestions could give any ideas about site improvements especially on the browsing feature.
