Recent Updates (Files, Guides, Updates)

  • GameMaps (System)
The past couple weeks we have primarily focused on getting all pages utilizing the new beta system. Our biggest task was converting the guides section to the new beta platform which is now mostly completed. This has taken a large portion of our time and we are glad to have this section out of the way. As of right now, all sections on the beta are now utilizing the new platform and no more pages need to be converted! This is a big step to having the beta release-ready.

We still have some minor work to do finishing the display output for guides (viewing, browsing and editing). And now that the entire beta platform is no longer using the old system, we are very close to opening the beta to the public. The public beta release is anticipated to launch sometime this week.

We have listed some recent updates below.

    ---
    Platform Updates
    ---

    - You can now upload a variety of new file types for the world to enjoy. Dev kits, patches, demos, manuals, tools and other files are now supported. There is no limit to what you can upload as long as it's gaming related.

    - Guides are now fully converted to the new beta system. In addition we have updated the guide categories to provide a wider range of options. We are still working on the front-end display for viewing and editing guides.

    - Guides are now a primary category in the members area (sidebar) with easy access to sub-categories. The design was also updated to be more consistent with the Files and Gallery sections.

    - When managing content for a specific game you can now easily jump from Files, Gallery and Guides for that game.

    - When you edit a file, you can now visit the "Changelog" tab to correct/update the version without having to re-upload.

    Thanks for supporting GameMaps!

  • Tested updates and have some suggestions and bug reports.

    Guide page.
On guide page the background on top, patterns on black background, don't really fit with the rest of the site.

    Guide adding/editing.
While editing or adding guide textarea don't detect space between text. If I want to add space between two lines of text, I'm clicking enter button twice, but it wont work in guide page. My guide should have spaces like this for example after the link. Check here:
    https://beta.gamemaps.com/guide/12
Adding tags to guide could be more clear. The + button rather suggest that you can add another game.
I suggest to move entire panel with blue buttons under the "Tagged" text and field to choose game. Right now, at least on my monitor, I cant see those blue buttons when page load.
Paragraph textarea is too small. Should be twice or three times bigger just like on forum.
Guides textarea don't have profanity filter.
I suggest to change text "Tagged" to "Game". Makes more sense since you are choosing game.
Bug. I added new image then changed it to new 4K image and after uploading it, it shows previous image. No matter what image I'm going to upload next it shows that previous image. However on guide page it shows the image that I just added(not that previous image). This bug can be temporary fixed by canceling the guide with red button and returning in about 3 minutes(don't know why it takes this much).
Under textarea the B button, to bold text, changes size a little depending of what you added before. For example I added Title and then Paragraph and it was bigger than other buttons.
When adding guide, if I click on field to choose game, that + button adjust itself to the dropdown list. I think it should stay on the right of the field.
Bug. When clicking on the field to choose game it resizes. This bug don't occur in other places when choosing game for example when adding map.
Bug? Not sure if this is a bug, but that + button clicking area is too small. Clicking area is + sign, top and bottom of it. Left and right sides are not clickable. You can check this when hovering over gray button with mouse cursor.
In tags boxes that X button to remove tag is not in the center of the gray box. This is also issue in other sections when editing or adding tags.
In my opinion overall adding or editing guides seems overcomplicated. It could be just textarea with formatting options.

    Files.
Files section have Custom maps, Custom mods and Tools and trainers tabs. There are no other subsections for example Dev kits, game patches etc.

Gallery and Guides don't have Activity button before choosing the game.
Changelog tab have different background color. Its always gray.
Bug. In Files, Gallery and Guides sections if you choose game, on top right corner three tabs appear Files, Gallery and Guides. If you try to choose game again those tabs stretch down.

  • I concur Dead Series. Greenhood takes looking over the beta very seriously!

  • I have a question for iLL: How close are you people to finishing the temporary "censoring" of the beta website? I've noticed the text of my mods is still censored, and given they are SCRIPT mods words like "***********" do not imply anything naughty.

  • Hello AlfredENeuman,
Anything that is censored must be manually corrected by editing the file and updating the title or description. If a word is not sensored it should appear.

We appreciate all the feedback and rest assured are working on updates.

  • iLL, the words being censored SHOULD NOT BE CENSORED! You said in the past a program was cleaning up the site so to speak, but that it was not always going to be perfect (or even close to that), but that eventually this program would be fixed so words that shouldn't be censored, given their context, would no longer be!

For example in many of my mods *********** layers and *********** power were improved, as they are scripts designed to increase the lethality of the weapons. But this is hardly a case were I'm talking dirty!

Are you saying I have to change the descriptions of all 50 of my mods and then re-upload them?

  • Once a word has been censored, even if we correct the sensitivity it doesn't restore the old words. This is because the words have been replaced with ***. If you add them back, and they are still getting censored, let me know which word is triggering the censor and we can look into it. But you need to update your mods to correct already censored content.

  • Btw is it possible to include the changelog as text file in the same location as the gamemaps text file in the zip? Recently a member gave me a suggestion to include my changelog as a text file inside the zip file, & I thought that's a brilliant idea so I did it manually. I wonder if the this feature can be automatically added each time the mod is published. That way, people can read the changelog more easily from notepad without having to open the browser on the phone/ pc.

  • If I create a map fix, which section should I add it to? Maps - but the file does not contain a map, Mods or Other?
    for example: https://beta.gamemaps.com/details/26316

  • If it doesn't contain a map then its a mod. I would put it in mods section.
