Black Mesa campaign is duplicate and theft

looking into it, it doesn't really fix anything.
it is misleading and false advertising.
it is nothing more than someone's own personal preferences...

    removed supposedly "unnecessary" files...
which probably were in there for a reason as it was originally a port from Half Life...
changing the water to look better? definitely not fixing anything.
    supposedly missing sounds?
well, if true, that's something the author could still do himself...
a new loading poster? definitely not a fix either.
so it's all just someone else's own personal preferences and a duplicate we don't need.

they could've kept it to themselves.
it's just unnecessary clutter and only going to create confusion and conflicts.
people not knowing what version to get, especially with servers.
it's also not properly credited either by the looks of it.
my own upload of it came first and it is completely intact, not modified in anyway, out of respect
and was uploaded to help get the author more feedback and exposure.
he was also aware of it.
oh, and this other user claims they contacted him on YouTube.
i didn't see any comments from them about it on the author's Black Mesa videos,
and no way to directly contact him on his YouTube profile.
it's all too suspicious. especially having been harassed and deleted comments like they always do.

    random side note:
seems crediting and publisher/up-loader fields act differently on the beta.
that will also create more problems as on the main site you see no proper crediting.
hence part of the whole problem here with theft and duplicates.

  • on the beta site there are multiple report options for both user and item.

    to clarify for the item:
duplicate is most likely best as it is at least just that.

    to clarify for the user:
harassment for most of the situation at the moment.
(example, deleting comments and "who the hell are you" and "shut up about permission")
it should really be obvious at this point.

and then you can write out in detail whatever information you want as I have already done here.

oh, by the way, for the record, after contacting the author, it seems this user deletes his own comments.
there was confirmation there is no proof this user did any external contacting.
user is clearly suspicious and fraudulent.

why can't people respect the works of others especially if they are still some what active?
it's certainly not like the original author here abandoned anything.
but regardless you should ask for permission and have some communication.
and that should include with others who already had the items uploaded.
this person here could've sent a message to me and/or the author with their concerns and let us handle it.
honestly this person just seems like another Herbius/Huck making unnecessary changes and not actually fix anything.
missing sounds, a new poster, fancy water... not worth a new version at all and definitely not fixes.
just sounds more like personal preference for this other user.
and just makes confusion and conflicts with others (especially server admins) not knowing what to get.
speaking of admins, i'd be surprised if "iLL" even cares about such a thing...
i know at least Rayman would, actually working with Valve and being the one person they listen to.
this is why you don't re-upload something which already exists and search first... and use proper communication.
permission and credit is one thing, but at least try contacting someone who already had the item uploaded.
see if something really did need fixing and then update if necessary on the item that's already there.
things like string tables, download links, anything could make a different version.
but as proven from this other user... if you're not a map author you're not going to understand.
you have to also think from a server perspective... how is the game even going to know what to connect to.

  • Trunten, not only do I agree with you (and gave you a thumbs up on your comments), I'd like to point out I once suggested to management iLL that maybe, as crazy as it may sound, it would make sense to give l4dkk their own section on the website with just his or her stuff. This would give more exposure to actual modders since the l4dkk "mods" (I'm using the term loosely obviously) WOULD NOT BE ON THE FRONT PAGE ANYMORE.

With l4dkk "mods" off the front page, it would allow other modders to hopefully get their mods noticed during that critical short window after releasing a mod when it shows up on the front page at the top.

Another idea would be to simply have a section of the website for "uploaders", instead of modders so that modders get the exposure they deserve for their mods, instead of the uploaders who are simply getting their "work" (obviously that's an exaggeration) noticed instead of those actually creating something. IF THIS WERE DONE L4DKK'S OR OTHER UPLOADER'S STUFF WOULDN'T BURY EVERYONE ELSE'S ON THE FRONT PAGE ANYMORE.

Don't get me wrong though, if l4dkk or some other uploader actually created a mod by themselves of course they'd have every right in either scenario to upload it to the modding section. But at least l4dkk would be prevented from spamming mods created by combining mods made by others with a little bit of code of their own (90% of the "mods" are the same thing- all 8 survivors being replaced with a particular new model or model with a change of clothing.)

  • This was about an actual duplicate item and harassment.

Not about l4dkk spamming this time.

    But you're right.

  • AlfredENeuman, the section you are looking for, that some other modding website already have, is called requests. Users could request to make a specific mod. Not only that uploader could earn points by fulfilling user request, but also having such section more or less prevents from spamming mods, because they will not show up until request is closed. Admins should be notified if this section is abused by one person or give some limitations like uploading time interval.
Also adding request text to mod title would not be possible(blocked with filters?), but mods would be marked as request in thumbnail and mod page.

  • it's a duplicate, not actually 'fixing" anything the author couldn't do himself, whom i've spoken to about it as well and confirmed. there's no reason his workshop item couldn't be updated with the changes as well as the upload i already had on my account if this "7empest" would've contacted us. he was also deleting comments and harassed me as do most thieves in our community. looking at the change log it's even something someone more reputable and respectable like "Dave" ("daywalkerdave1963 / timelordmagnums357") could do and be more trusting and reliable

  • Looks like he's included as a "grey case". After checking both link from the old site & beta, I figured out just recently that even when on beta site the uploader properly writes the author's names, they are not added to the old site. So, like this example, the author Valve & porter Knee are already added to beta, but on the old site, it remains as 7empest as the author. Probably this could be a bug.

Aside from being a duplicate, he did what were necessary to reupload someone else's work, like contacting the porter (Knee. However there's still not enough proof for this as one short sentence about contacting Knee's youtube channel is still not valid enough as a proof. Probably Knee himself/ herself could clarify this), properly writing author's & porter's names on beta (the old site still lists his name as the author though). Actually I had no idea about what to do, as the only problem left is a duplicate campaign. Both campaigns work well too, as I tested the campaign uploaded by 7empest yesterday. The only difference is the file size, & some fixes that I still don't know what are fixed compared to the old one, as I usually focus on checking the playability. Probably now it's up to the admin & staff to decide the fate of two identical campaigns.

  • he claims there was contact, but after speaking to the author directly myself, it seems there actually was none.
problem is the author is still around and active, has his own on the workshop which he could update if necessary.
and then after the author updated the workshop i would update it here.
of course, assuming, the so called "fixes" were even necessary.
7empest also was harassing and disrespectful as you'd see, and removed comments...
Knee's work shouldn't be associated with users like that.
if Knee the author didn't want to update himself, it's probably for a reason.
otherwise it should be left to someone else who actually knows what they're doing, like "Dave"
by the way, this other duplicate could conflict with the original, people won't know what to get.
servers are also a concern with server admins and not knowing which ones to get and connect to.
plenty of differences, whether the changes were necessary is questionable, but still problematic.
let's not forget Knee and myself weren't contacted first, 7empest should've asked us.
you don't take someone else's work and modify it without permission and make unnecessary changes.
we had to deal with "Huck" doing this **** for several years until the admins finally realized.
don't overlook the multiple problems here.

  • in fact, this is a good point for me stop and leave my final point.
haven't we learned from "Huck" and the mistake of tolerating his trash for several years?
right now 7empest doesn't seem to be anything but another Huck.
huck gets mad because he says he ported a lot of these campaigns first to l4d2 before anyone else.
however, the problem is he didn't fix them, all he did was port them.
the endless complaints on this site from the past attest to that.
so many people wanted his maps removed it wasn't funny.
he has no idea how to fix nav issues.
just add items or actually swap out item using a utility and switching the game over to l4d2 play-ability.
if the maps are broken he has no clue how to fix that kind of stuff.
my friend offered to teach him many times how to do certain things but he's always got a chip on his shoulder.
he thinks he knows more than anyone else unfortunately.
    he doesn't want to learn.
people will see his crap for what it is just like they did before.

    Knee:
I haven't planned on making any more changes as I haven't really seen any game breaking bugs or missing textures. No one has asked me about taking over development or making changes so I don't know anything about that.

    Trunten:
then i take this as confirmation you don't approve of the duplicate and the admins should be contacted for removal of it

I can do that personally if need be

  • The last responds from Knee probably would be the best & most effective solution to put an end to a "grey case" on his campaign like this. I don't know if screenshots of the chat with the author or original porter might affect how admin & staff handle the "grey case", but at least if the author himself appears to clarify, that would be the fastest way to close the case.

Anyway, I still have no idea about how to solve the "Huck virus" though. Like most of old members here know, there are several "variants" of the "virus" spread here (like "grey cases" about other mods like survivor skin mods, weapon skin mods etc). Workshop also has this kind of problem, but I hope that admin & staff of this site could do something about this soon.

  • shouldn't have to screenshot anything when I'd like to think we've been reporting it enough to warrant concern.
including "7empest" themselves, whatever their name is.
also spoken several times directly to Rayman.
it's violating enough to be removed.
theft, duplicate, harassment in the comments... including deleted comments.
and now "sugoku", whoever he is, stalking me (I've seen him around suspiciously in other items, mine included).
some weird awkward pattern with "sugoku".
anyway, he's also been commenting on it and it's not going to help... seeing more drama and arguments.
the staff and this community need a serious wake up call on what the real problems are before redesigning a site.

  • have you ever created something original? ever worked with a team?
watched something unique and original you were a part of get stolen?
let's say i went to your job.
took work you completed, made some of my own changes and turned it in as my own taking credit for it?
i doubt you'd be happy. i'd be surprised if you found that acceptable.
and i'm pretty sure it happens often in the real world in the actual workplace.
oh yeah it's called plagiarism and theft.
no different here on the internet especially in this community.
authors have a right to know when their content is modified and redistributed.
crediting alone is just an excuse, you should contact and ask for permission.
i've been a long standing member of this community for about 12 to 13 years.
i remember when we used to come together to defend and support other map and mod authors.
and when the staff used to care and did their job.
i guess it's time everyone finally got burnt out or just want in it for the fame and money.
people have finally lost the passion.

7empest is back once again causing drama, probably because he was already moderated before.
Once again showing the types of members we shouldn't have to tolerate around here and should just ban.
Users like these clearly don't understand or care so our community is obviously not the place for them.
