GameMaps Old Version....

  • Dear GameMaps Team,

    I was just wondering if I can have the option to move back to the old version while using GameMaps as I am more familiar with the older version besides it got more features and maps are more organized for me. I know it's still processing; because yesterday, the new version was there, then it was converted to the old one and I cheered up lol, but again, today it is back to the new version. So please make it available for users to swap between both versions. Thank you!

  • I too would like the option to use the old version. It's just a personal preference but I like it much, much better. If there is an option to switch back or to use a manual internet address to access it, that would be great. Thank you very much!

  • People, the new site has been in development for years! If you want changes made to the new site, give some ideas but management is highly unlikely to keep the old website available.

    And this opinion is coming from one of the original beta testers, so I'm kind of in the know on this!

    Have a nice day!

  • I saw the new version once it came out and I was aware it was there all the time, but yes, there are missing features and I don't want it to keep old version only, but just to make it an option to have old version mode and the new version mode like 2 different layouts. So those who love the new version enjoy the new one while those who are stuck to the old version can enjoy too.

  • Well, for starters, the new website doesn't have pages when browsing maps. It just endlessly scrolls. I want to see pages so I can bookmark when looking for a map and return to where I left off. Also, I can't just skip to the "last page" or page 20 of 40, etc. If I sorted maps by most recent and went to the last page to see the first maps uploaded, for instance, I can't do that anymore.

    Notwithstanding all the work, the old site was better.

  • Yes, that's why I want the option to use the old version while keeping and working on the recent version. The main issue is the pages besides I can't see any rating for maps like 1-5 star rating so I can't know which map is worth playing and which is not. I am now playing 3 star rated maps and later I will move to 4 star rated maps, then 5 star rated ones.

    The old GameMaps version is currently discontinued and we are in the process of releasing the new GameMaps Beta. Running two GameMaps versions on multiple servers prevents our development team from moving forward on core updates. Although the old GameMaps is no longer available, we will do our best to ensure you have the best experience on the new version!

    @kel9509
    We will look into adding navigational pagers to the primary browse sections as well options to jump to the last page.

    @EshmawyMan
    The rating system has been greatly improved in the Beta. I understand you want to view ratings while browsing content. We will provide you the option to display ratings while browsing in the future.

    We appreciate everyone's feedback and patience during the beta transition! We will continue to improve the new version to better fit your needs. If there are any additional features you feel are missing on the new GameMaps, let us know and we will discuss it in our upcoming team meetings.

  • Yes, please! I hope the same features are applied to the new game map version as soon as possible. I can see how rating has improved in terms of spoilers and stars limit in case of bad reviews and so on. Adding images is there too. It's really good. I am just feeling nostalgia as my eyes got used to that lovely design of old game map version :) Thank you and keep it up.

  • Am I the only one here who actually prefers this design?
    I was around when gamemaps was just a collection of L4Dmaps, CSSmaps and so on. So I had to adapt twice now. But I do prefer this design over the other two.

    Of course you need to get used to it. You need to get used to everything that is new to you. And just hating on something cause you can't find a feature right now, or simply because it looks different is a pretty silly reason.

  • @MrFunreal, I guess you got a group of fans who love the new version of gamemaps. However, there are still many gamemaps users who are in love with the old version. Requesting the option to swap between versions doesn't mean the absence of the recently updated version. It means both can still be there just like few weeks ago when you love to give a review, you are directed to the beta version, which is the current version of gamemaps. Star rating is one of the most important features to know before giving a map a try that it will be full of bugs and annoying stuff. Of course, I am not gonna read comments to spoil the game for me to know if the map is worth to be played or not.

    I am playing all L4D maps here and going for 3 star rating maps, maps used to be divided by pages as each page got like 12 maps and each map got its rating. Now, I have to scroll down and down until I get to where I stopped. Before I was marking where I was by the page I stopped in and resume later.

    Haven't you ever loved the old version of something you used to know or deal with, especially when the new version of it annoyed you in a way?

  • Anyway you slice it Mr. Funreal has a point: we can't live in the past, even if we sometimes want to. If you want changes to the new website, you may request them. But expecting a group of programmers who've been working on this site FOR YEARS to abandon their work because a handful of people don't like it, is wishful thinking.

    It is completely impractical from a technical standpoint to keep the old website too, as it will require additional redundancy (which costs money of course.) And since the goal is to grow the number of members any additional servers need to be used to support the new website, not the same one they had back when I joined in 2015. As one of the original beta testers I'll say this: the site turned out the way I expected it to, and I commend the staff for that!

    The website design is not going to please everyone because that's impossible to do with over 1.2 million accounts.

    Speaking personally, I like the new website design though I didn't dislike the original site by any means.

    Mod spamming is a far bigger problem that needs to be addressed, and the sooner the better.

  • I agree. Like windows that has classic theme, converting old version into gamemaps classic theme is good. Some good features lost on new gamemaps. I can't jump to certain page number anymore when searching mods. Please add page number again like before. Like the user above, I also like saving bookmark for page numbers I visited.

  • @AlfredENeuman, we don't live in the past, but certain features are missing. These features are really important to many users as you say there are +1M accounts so the number is not small. Requesting both versions to be there can be a temporary solution till we are all set with all features available because we use the website everyday. I believe it would be the best right time when it's released while all features are moved from the old version to the new one and even set in a better user-friendly way. If those important features were there, this discussion wouldn't be there mostly.

    We've added a navigation pager to the bottom of the content browsing sections today!

    Appreciate the feedback.

  • Yes! I saw it while I was setting the maps in Grid view. Really thank you! Personally, the really left thing to do is to show the rating of each map (Stars) so that it's acknowledged while navigating between maps...

    Thanks a bunch for your response
