Recent Updates (Publisher Guidelines, Terms of Use, Privacy Policy)

  • GameMaps (System)
This notice is to inform the community that the Terms of Use, Privacy Policy and Publisher Guidelines have been updated.
Please take the time to read over our policies and guidelines.

To help clarify and address any concerns or confusion, we have released the 'Publisher Guidelines'. These guidelines are available to provide transparency in our operations, and to maintain integrity in our service. With our guidelines you can learn how publishing works, and the differences between a Publisher, Developer and a Contributor, in addition to the rights each have.

  • For the publisher guidelines on this point, "All published items must be properly credited to avoid disputes" along with the punishments listed there, does it start to be implemented from now on? If some improperly credited mods start to be investigated from now on, probably some users would gladly help report any improperly credited mods soon after they see their reports finally investigated & some actions are taken on those mods.

  • The Terms Of Use Policy has a line that reads: "Anything that offends the community as a whole or reflects negativity against GameMaps including its reputation."

I understand the importance of that rule, but this statement is so very broad- it would be helpful to be more specific given the consequences of breaking that rule!

I read both the Privacy Policy and Publishers Guidelines too of course and regarding the Publishers Guidelines: I've been a member since 2015 and still do not understand why "Publishers" are allowed to exist. Developers and Contributors do make the things that are uploaded, but all Publishers do is put somebody's content somewhere they didn't put it themselves (and therefore don't want it to be.) For example, if somebody wants their content put onto the Steam Workshop they will do so. But if they don't want their content put there and somebody puts it there anyway, all they are going to do is infuriate the content developer and perhaps also any contributors. This creates conflicts and grudges and I don't see how it benefits anybody.

  • We are always working towards a better experience for all users, and some features must be upgraded to ensure the best outcome. We understand for some users there are language barriers, and for others, they just simply don't know the rules, or follow the guidelines. In this case our team always tries to mediate, resolve, and educate publishers to ensure a better understanding of the terms. Correcting neglected credits and bad behavior by educating members is our first attempt, and if this does not resolve the issue, restrictions will be implemented on the account.

In most cases, we aim to communicate with all parties to try and correct the behavior or content, before implementing account restrictions. We feel this is the most suitable way to handle situations rather than restricting or punishing accounts without a chance to learn and improve from their mistakes. Of course, repeated offenses and intentional neglect will end up in an account restriction.

Now that we have updated our guidelines and policies, we can better explain the process to publishers, developers, and contributors.
We appreciate your concern, and rest assured we are working to resolve disputes and issues in a manner that provides a fair outcome for everyone.

    p.s.

Please keep in mind, many publishers are endorsed by developers to market their content. We have many publishers who receive direct permission to handle publishing and marketing on behalf of developers. As mentioned in the guidelines ' Ultimately it's in everyone's best interest if the original works are maintained and updated by the developer, contributor, or an endorsed publisher. For best results; Developers, contributors, and publishers should work together to promote their content.'

It is also important to keep in mind, everyone is a Publisher, including Developers and Contributors. We don't want "everyone" to start claiming developer rights, just because the publisher option is no longer available to select. Without the publisher option, it would be far more difficult to catch, resolve and verify the integrity of submissions. This is the best way to vet and ensure transparency during the content submission process. Without this transparency by publishers, we would be in the dark, thus creating a situation far more difficult to resolve. In addition, legacy content is generally limited to publishers who discover content with no known origin.

I hope that makes sense, and we appreciate your understanding.

  • as usual, 7empest just continues along with others with their nonsensical harassment, lies and slander upon others
they clearly didn't read a single thing here and just wanted to twist it around to spread misinformation and frame others
it's almost like they are like the only few people left around here anymore and just come here to troll and cause drama

here, let us speak louder for those who are obviously blind and deaf in the back of the room

many of us have seen this many times, most of the time, people just want properly credited and it happens
unlike some of you going around trying to play some keyboard warrior white knight of justice
some developers appreciate the extra feedback and criticism

All published items must be properly credited to avoid disputes
this has been the only thing the staff here give a damn about unless someone who actually created the content speaks up
in other words, so many of you need to mind your business and just enjoy the damn game for once
it's like you've never seen other worse people in the community who did the same thing but worse
or others who i've called out and personally named who are true plagiarists and thieves here and worskhop
no, you want to be hypocrites and children who single me out for no logical reason but to start drama
you failed in school and don't know or understand the real definitions of the words you wrongfully accuse others of
hilarious, when you're just "stealing" Valve's own content for "your" own maps yourselves
just going by your own logic, as of course not... nobody would ask Valve for permission lol
see how that feels. you should just drop it and let it go and move on, i'm not going any where
and apparently neither are the real thieves here
they even tolerated the infamous "Huck' also known as "Herbius" until he repeatedly broke multiple rules

also, from another point of view, we have good hearted people I work with such as "TimeLordMagnum"
unlike the infamous "Huck", Time Lord will actually take feedback and learn and fix problems with old maps
we do attempt to reach out and contact people for permission, IF they can even be contacted
otherwise, bare minimum is always credited and good enough
7empest you don't realize how foolish and childish you and your sockpuppets are
you need to just kick back, smoke a blunt and chill and vibe with the game
if you weren't such an ass i'd love to even help you with your maps
but i see you and those you hang with are just lost causes and will never understand

  • so what user 7empest really meant to say was:
"This rule change sadly isnt going to stop commander nick reyes from stealing other peoples mods"
heck with it, there, i said what i said, there's ONE single true real thief, plagiarist, but NO ONE gives a damn
i could list more, including from steam workshop... but lol NO ONE complained about them

  • ah, another thing, finally a good addition and change this site made
OUTSOURCING, which also serves as crediting and doubles as respect to the original developers
literally ALL the bases are covered, and it's yet another bonus if they already had an account here when credited
but for all you need to know, even without and before the said "changes" to the guidelines and whatnot
they're all always free to look us up and contact us if they want to dispute anything
most of the time they just want credited and i did have someone clarify that to me not too long ago
as i just knew some of you couldn't resist the urge to try to continue making me look bad
and the developer of that specific item straight up didn't care as he acknowledged and appreciated the crediting

Properly crediting content avoids 99% of the disputes!
    It's good practice to ensure proper credit is given when publishing content;
And to contact the original developers (if possible) and inform them about the published item

Emphasis on the "if possible", again, which is why so many of us DO credit at the very least. And this is always done, bro
Try to realize and understand some people simply retire and move on, or straight up don't care
Or the occasional curve ball where their name is changed, and you can't find them by who they once were known as

We have the whole transfer / dispute thing in place, which is one rare example of this site getting something right
We don't understand what there is for you to not understand, dearest 7empest
It's like you're just trolling around looking for trouble
    I will not be slandered

No amount of any moderation, such as removed comments, will prevent me from defending myself
If users like you and your sock puppets can get away with the lies cast upon me
Then I will happily reeducate you again and again
Stay at the kids table where an opinion of your tender years will be appreciated
You have no class, courage, or fortitude of any kind
    Quit harassing me
