In-depth feedback and suggestions.

    Hello Trunten,
We have no intent on simply deleting the listing.. We are looking at more long-term solutions that affects a wide range of scenarios for the entire platform. Items that can benefit from these solutions are waiting to be dealt with, including the helms deep situation. We are looking at new features called 'pairing' , 'merging' , and 'version history'.

Pairing: Allows items to be paired together so players have informed decisions when downloading. (add-on linking)
Merging: Allows multiple items to be merged together into a single item. All comments, watchlists, and statistics are merged into a primary listing. All urls will be redirected to the merged item.
Version History: To view and download a specific version of a item from the past.

These features are essential to resolve various scenarios on the platform. I am not sure how the helms deep situation will be exactly dealt with just yet, but it is certainly going to be handled appropriately. It doesn't matter if its you, another publisher, or a player. We want everyone (including players) to have the best experience so they can enjoy content they favored in the past and in the years to come.

    Regards

  • I'm not trying to sound greedy or biased or selfish.
But if you do the necessary research you'd see you're better off with my version.
I had also contacted the original developers, Age of Chivalry.
They gave me their permission... Same as Jaiz on workshop.
If you truly care about your members, including safety, mine should be the only version.
Trust me, do some research on the map.

    Hello Trunten,
Perhaps your not understanding what I am trying to say... ;)

It is possible that the Helms Deep in question gets merged with your version, meaning you "may or may not" end up with all the views, subscribers, watchlists, etc... This means your version could gain 3+ million views, thousands of subscribers and when you release a new update all the players will be informed appropriately. This is clearly the best outcome for players and the publisher such as yourself. In addition the old helms deep url, (which is linked throughout the world web) will send traffic to the working version. aka yours... This is not a situation where simply "delete it" is a recommended solution.. We are looking into viable solutions which require additional functions and features to be implemented. We are making progress.

At this time however, most of our efforts have shifted to site monetization which that seems to be your most persistent request. As you've mentioned repeatedly in the past, we need improved ways to moderate, restrict users, and monetize content for a better experience. This includes the ability to report users, restrict users, reporting content, foul comments, guest comments, and verifying content etc... We listen to the community and we are literally working and making big progress on things you've even repeatedly requested.

It's all going to be resolved and we appreciate your feedback and patience.
    Regards

  • anyway, iLL, jason, whatever name you prefer...
I see you made a new discussion topic about the new features...
just so you know, I'm not against new features.
but I just wanted you to be aware of the controversial past and negative history of Helm's Deep.
Serious_Samurai was malicious when he ported the map into L4D2.
was later exposed by Jaiz on YouTube with the help of the community.
feel free to find the video about it or contact me privately and I'll explain.
like I said, in the situation with Helm's Deep it's best you know the truth.
however, from my own research, it sounds like it already started with the original Left 4 Dead 1 version here.

  • I apologize, I was multi-tasking and it seems we replied at the same time.
you may still contact me privately if you wish.
it's not often I'm awake and online this early...
maybe i'm not fully awake yet.
    :)

I will say this, perhaps I don't understand what you mean by "monetize" or what the word itself means.
but you might be right about the rest of my concerns.

  • Hello:

Would you people please clarify what you meant by this statement:

"Adjusting titles and descriptions as we see fit."

I would hope I am misinterpreting this statement, because it sounds to me like you are reserving the right to edit the description and titles without having any dialogue with the author(s) beforehand. This is more than a little bit of a concern to me. I'm not accusing anyone of saying they are going to be censoring people, but it does sound like maybe that's what you people have in mind.

There is nobody more qualified to have an accurate description and or title than the person(s) who created the mod, so it seems to me if for some reason you people don't like the titles and or descriptions that you should contact the author INSTEAD OF JUST MAKING CHANGES. To say modders would be furious if changes were made without warning would be an understatement.

Now, this website has rules and of course we are all obligated to follow such rules and I'm not saying there should be no limits on what is said in descriptions and or titles. BUT I would respectfully ask you people to tread very carefully. One reason modders HATE Steam is that at any time for no good reason, a mod can be banned. I've had it happen at least a dozen times despite breaking no rules and in fact was so effective at complaining that they, to some extent, changed their system. But they didn't change it enough believe me.

I would suggest if you have an issue with someone's description and or title that you immediately contact the author to see if they will VOLUNTARILY make changes to make things acceptable. If they don't comply obviously you would reserve the right to punish them in some way. But if you people just make changes without warning I believe it will backfire big time!

You know, a big problem in my country right now is the media censors people by not covering all sides (and they push an agenda instead of reporting facts too), and I know in other countries the governments literally censor everything. So this is an issue not just for me but for many. Nobody wants their words edited in the name of political correctness or any other reason.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

    Respectfully,

    Hello AlfredENeuman,
We have no intention of editing any description that follows the terms of use. However there are a bunch of addons with incomplete descriptions, improper titles and even no description at all that needs to be dealt with.

    Here are some examples:

This is only a small example, there are hundreds of items that need to be improved so the players have an accurate description of what they are downloading or viewing. Some of these items may become edited, abandoned, archived, deleted, and the accounts may also get a warning (policy center) or even a restriction in repetitive situations. In either case, the content that is currently on the site needs to be reviewed and dealt with in a manner most appropriate for each situation.

  • That makes sense to me iLL. And thanks for responding so fast. Have a great day!

  • However, archiving in general might need some minor tweaking with disabling comments/reviews.
Now we seem to have people going around even further adding more review abuse to archived items.
Archived content probably shouldn't be able to be searched for or at least interacted with at all.
Possibly have it be similar to abandoned content as for as no commenting or reviewing ability.
