Trunten you are spot on! l4dkk, is in fact one of the biggest reasons I retired- some of my last 10 mods were some of my best work but I'd upload a new mod and often the same day that person would upload 10 of them so my mods would get no exposure. Now don't get me wrong, this is NOT my website so if those were 10 legitimate mods I would've looked at it like "that's my tough luck." But basically, none of them were anything other than the same concept over and over again (every survivor being the same person) and ALWAYS it was somebody else's work being uploaded. I'd bet it is literally true that 25% of the mods on this website's Left 4 Dead 2 section are in fact spam mods from this so-called author. And 90% of those were mods that were derivative works created by taking the mods of others and using their work to create their own. The odds that all of those authors of all of those mods gave permission are ZERO and that's an obvious fact. I wonder how many other modders are now either retired or only put their work elsewhere because of all of that mod spamming? And I refuse to believe all of those probably a 1,000 mods were requests, but I just think that person says they were to get some sort of cover from critics. I complained about it to iLL a long time ago but basically was told the problem would only get worse, so get used to it. As I recall long ago this person actually did create some mods of their own, but I guess they wanted to have the title of most prolific modder of the website. I suppose they succeeded but at what price for the rest of us? All of you are of course entitled to your opinions on these issues, but I still think only the authors should be able to upload mods because it is just too easy to steal them and allowing others to upload mods only makes it easier. And by the way I've been know to let others incorporate my mods into theirs with permission so long as I'm credit as a co-author, because WITHIN REASON the more mods the merrier. But there has to be some balance to protect intellectual property. Have a nice day everyone.
that's what it comes down to, the admins here have too much of a care free attitude. reminds me of a private conversation about some of Huck's shenanigans getting too personal invading my privacy. warned him i might have to make a serious legal matter out of it, get the law involved. he didn't want to have anything to do with it. i was told to simply move! what the **** seriously kind of attitude is that. well guess what, if a subpoena comes into effect, pretty sure you have no choice whatsoever but to cooperate. anyway, that drama from earlier in the year eventually lead to guest comments removed, and Huck finally banned. hence why i bring up all of these concerns, ALL of them, old or new, here or else where to them. yet i get looked at like i'm being the disrespectful talking badly of them. can they not take criticism? they wanted us here in the beta! they wanted our feedback and whatnot. so then when we give it it's like they get defensive and offended. doesn't make sense. oh, the best one, come to find out sometimes Rayman can't do anything without iLL's approval. i think even the chain of command needs restructured. you have more than one admin, great... but... they can't equally share the power and responsibility? makes me curious what role Funreal has but i think it's more like coder or designer or something. but again we're starting to go off the topic here. but i'm seeing now where the bigger problems may truly be.
Well, I'm not going to complain about Rayman1103 as he's been very kind to me but you are right that there are times when he can't do something without iLL's okay. Rayman told me that iLL is the owner of the website. So, regardless of who the webmaster(s) are Rayman doesn't seem able to do everything he may want to. I think another issue that may affect things is that perhaps Rayman sometimes has so much on his plate and there are only so many hours in the day. But I totally agree with you that moderation on this website needs to be taken A LOT MORE SERIOUSLY! If not, as neat as the new website is the old adage you may put lipstick on a pig but it is still the same animal may turn out to be true.
Btw about a "grey thief" mentioned above, it seems like he becomes one of the lords here. I know that the admin & staff might have made certain cooldown to limit batch uploads, but he's still OP with his productive uploads, by burying other mods gradually via routinely uploading like 2-3 mods a day (or even more than 3 mods a day?). Well, I hope that if the admin & staff still find it hard to effectively handle "grey thieves", at least they might need to do something with the batch upload rules again.
I gave your comment a thumbs up- you are exactly right! But if I were a gambler I'd bet the farm nothing will be done as I think some who run this website believe the more mods the merrier, even if they are stolen or created from derivative works without permission.
Perhaps I should add in my previous post that there have to be more features for users to manage uploaded content. Other modding sites have features like flagging content which gives users ability to mark content to be questionable aka "gray case". Despite that these feature still would require admin to take action, but users would see when uploader and admins took appropriate action. We can talk here all we want but l4dkk wont go away until admins take action. I'm actually curious why admins don't do anything. Admins, care to share an honest answer/opinion? 🤔
report this for being a duplicate and also the author and I weren't contacted about it. https://beta.gamemaps.com/details/26519
and they not surprisingly deleted my comments just like the others. users and items like that should be reported. his is nothing more than a duplicate anyway and they could've contacted us with what to "fix"
Greenhood, I've complained about l4dkk for years to iLL and also to Rayman1103. I think I even said once that the website was becoming l4dkk.com, but I don't think iLL cares because iLL wants as many mods as possible on the website. iLL owns the website so is the boss of bosses, according to Rayman (who seemed to agree with me that what l4dkk was doing was a problem- after all Rayman1103 is a modder himself.) I respectfully disagree with iLL that letting l4dkk do what he or she does is justified if those mods are stolen, and as plenty of us have pointed out the sheer volume of mods released makes it impossible for some to justify continuing to mod. Nobody wants one of their mods to be a flop after all, but how can it get noticed when you might release a mod and the same day 10 are released from l4dkk? I think you may have some good ideas there though regarding flagging of questionable content, and I hope someone is management is listening.
I'm just going to start using this for linking to and reporting duplicates and actual theft (items not credited). maybe eventually they'll all get the point. let's start with that "Black Mesa" one I already explained previously. he is disrespecting me and not understanding the problems by having multiple versions of the same thing uploaded
Anyway, the whole situation is mixed and a grey area. If people would at the least credit properly I myself would back off. Why not respect original authors enough and credit properly? The other issue, again, like with this recent "Black Mesa" campaign... Sometimes items are already uploaded. I already had this one uploaded and contact with the author. It's fine if someone wants to help fix something if it's a real concern, so just communicate with them. I understand if it appears someone's not active, but you should at least try to contact. Especially if something is already on the workshop, a comment sends out a notification similar to here. Anyway, the other problem with the "Black Mesa" campaign is it's not actually a "fix". In fact it feels similar to Huck's old shenanigans... removing what they felt was "unnecessary" files and changing water, supposedly missing sounds, and a poster? not actual "fixes"... just minor oversights if anything. point is, stuff the author could do himself. and since mine was already uploaded here the same as the author's workshop version... we don't need duplicates and it's just that, unnecessary clutter is all it is. these are the types of users who have to go... disrespectful and harassing others. i highly doubt many authors want their works associated with toxic people like this. i wasn't even attacking him myself when i confronted him about it being an unnecessary duplicate. but yet as is tradition we see we just get comments deleted and then abused.
