Satisfying White Forest sequel

At long last, I can finally rest in peace after spending years dying in waiting for someone to make a sequel to White Forest campaign!

First, love the part where each maps contain satisfying amount of weaponry and items.

In finale, I like it when we finally gets to see brief appearance outside the garage exactly at the end of Half-Life 2: Episode 2. However, I think it would be cool to use the same Mi-8 copter instead of spawning another one just to make a more suspense feeling as if we are preparing for a trip to Borealis, instead of dying to wait for Episode 3 release!!

Difficulty overall isn't bad. I also like it when Special Infected suddenly hops in from the top window of our left side when mounting machine gun. It makes the finale more tense and challenging.

However as someone already mentioned, bots are having trouble saving Survivors who got strangled by Smokers when you are using the elevators. This nuisance bug should be fixed. Bot navigations aren't perfect, but most of them works fine without major issues.

Short journey, not very perfect but still a good campaign. Though it should've first picks up where White Forest campaign ends, but that's another topic. I hope someone could help make new campaigns between the end of White Forest and this one, concentrating mainly on long journey between Riding Shotgun until Under The Radar EP2 chapter.

3rd chapter should be split into half

Being a long time Half-Life gamer, I have always appreciate modders who tries to bring them into the L4D2 universe. This is why alongside with several Ravenholm campaigns I played, this White Forest campaign is another ones I loved it and I'm now repeatedly playing it, therefore I must admit this is quite good! But then again, while there are good side of this campaign, there are also downsides as well.

First, let me just say that I like how the crowbar was offered in the beginning. Now THAT is something since we know it represents the Half-Life symbolic weapon. I also like how the cinematic camera points to the City 17 being destroyed at the background first, though it somewhat lacks the Superportal effect but that's another story to comment and I won't get too far fetched about it.

Then here comes the Gnome hiding at the comms room. While I love to carry that cute little toy, the problem is whenever I drop (intentionally or accidentally) at certain places like inside the antlion cave, it will fall through the floor. This is quite frustrating. It seems that the developer forgot to add the collision at the cave.

I also like how the particular Tank at the cave was modded with different texture. Is that a mini-Hulk I saw? Another thing I love it is when the elevator was being called, it immediately plays the Vortal Combat music. This boosts up my mode to fight zombies when playing with my eight custom Half-Life characters!

Now moving on to third chapter. I loved most of the parts such as two antlion guards replaced with tanks smashing out from the mines, the environment, the nostalgia on HL2 EP2 journey etc. However, the third part is too long. Lack of first aids and pills. Too many Special Infected & hordes. Not enough ammo replenishment. This part is so unbalanced.

Honestly if it's me, I would rather split the third chapter into half. The first part should have ended up at Freeman Pontifex room where you have to jump through the shelves. Then second part should begin from this same place. That way, this would give a more balance chapter.

Finally, I love the finale chapter where you have to restart the 4 engines and wait for the helicopter ride. Every guns and upgrades are introduced at the final part.

In conclusion, while there are certain flaws in this campaign, White Forest is still one of the best HL2-ported campaign I would highly recommend. I do wish someone could continue make a White Forest 2.0 where it continues up from the Survivors would explore chapters from EP2's Riding Shotgun onwards. The finale chapter makes me feel like the journey is hardly over for survivors who wish to follow Freeman's footsteps.

Xen should be fully detailed or expanded

Very good map campaign. Needless to say, its basically tracing the reverse Gordon Freeman's footstep from We've Got Hostiles chapter to Anomalous Materials in Half-Life! I like how the turrets were setup everywhere, as well as the secret vents. And the famous Resonance Cascade lab in Unforeseen Consequences is beautifully remade. Could've compete with Crowbar Collective's Black Mesa dev team!

The only slight disappointment was Xen. Firstly, all those rooms taken from Chapter 1 and Chapter 3 aren't needed. Since focus is on Xen, the journey setting should be solely on climbing or going through the floating rocks only. Another thing is all those crates and cars that floating on Xen should have be replaced with Xen rocks. Those cars and crates are ugly, and its seen more dangerous to walk through it. Finally, where is the Xen skybox? Why is the whole sky went black? Its such a waste not to add them! Other than that, I also love its finale though I don't like how multiple Tanks came out from inside the teleportation cave.

Overall, map campaign worth playing. With my modification of this map setting, I get to play as Gordon Freeman along with 7 other survivors!

Holy sheet feels

One of the only few decent L4D2 campaigns that I got addicted in playing for thousand times. I always play this campaign with 8 survivors via United We Stand co-op mutation mod in this nostalgic dark Ravenholm town. Using my own Father Grigori and Gordon Freeman custom characters I made to join the fun, I could keep playing this over again and won't get bored. No bot-nav problem; Fallen Survivors presence; crowbar provided; well-balanced and hard challenges.

My only question is, will the train crashes on the way after survivors boarded it at finale? It should have been reverse backwards rather than moving forward, lol! xD

Last Chapter problem

Played this campaign recently. Now what I can say? Interesting storyline, but not very good. Its challenging; but such challenge doesn't make sense. The last chapter is the biggest frustrating problem. No offense, but its shit and very unfair challenge and here are reasons I wanna point out.

First, the neurotoxin gas instantly kills everyone. What the fug? If anything, the effect should have been applied using the same as 2nd chapter's neurotoxin damage effect in the sense they slowly hurt the survivors, rather than immediately choke them to death. That way, I don't have to keep restarting because almost all survivors gets killed along the way.

Second, wouldn't it makes more sense when the infected horde run from behind rather than from in front? Not that I have complaint over 10,000s of them running towards me, but they are blocking my way and its why I keep dying thanks to that nonsense neurotoxin damage effect!

Third, fix that goddamn bot navigation problem. One of the bots will always go back to the saferoom for some reason and then gets killed by that super neurotoxin. I have to keep using console command to fix this crap and I don't like it. Its considered cheating already.

Finally, even if you want to purposely increase the neurotoxin damage whereby it chokes survivors to death immediately, at least provide some fuggin' medkits along the way?


Dear mapper, I know you want to make skin on the teeth challenges. I like the map design, the storyline, new voice acting, new music, and especially 2nd and 3rd chapter where we had to defend the lines (I don't mind 3 tanks spawning simultaneously). The first 3 chapters are okay, but the last chapter is purely horrible and it kinda ruin the exciting storyline. I hate to say it, but the fact that I have to keep restarting over this horrible last chapter is the reason I don't recommend playing this campaign again unless the developer take the trouble to fix the last chapter. Other than that, still fun campaign to play.
