Hi everybody. I'm new to modding, and I'm trying to learn by doing simple things first. For example, I was trying to make a mod changing the color of Bill's beret to a red one. Very simple... I thought.
The problem is that even when I did all the steps, changing the color in the "bill_head.vtf", the "compress" file too, and adding the vmt file in the folder, the load still doesn't load the mod. I checked the folder's address many times, tried adding all the files mentioned in the vmt file, putting only the one I changed, etc., but it still doesn't load.
If any of you have tried or made something like this and it works, please, any leads or guidance on this will be much appreciated. Thanks

Thank you for freeing me from all that stress. If you don't mind, could you give me a quick explanation about the solution? I mean, why do we need to extract the files in the pak01_dir, and then delete all the dir's folder? This is just to understand how this works and reaffirm this new knowledge.
