      Cool idea but bad execution

So after I stumbled upon this custom campaign randomly I was very happy. Cause I love Alien movies. I watched them all, including those modern abominations, but only classic movies stood strong. But it's not about them here so I will get back on topic further down the line. I also played many old retro video games based on Alien and Aliens franchise, and there is a good and bad representation of it, but I never played Aliens Trilogy. I mean the original game on PS1. Because it was only on PS1 and not on PC. But I watched the playthroughs on youtube and it looked fine I guess. So I decided to try this custom campaign for Left 4 Dead 2 out to see, if it were any good. And here is my thoughts about it.

The campaign is good but it is very far from perfect. Because, there is no variety in what you do. You just wondering around dark labyrinth of corridors, trying to figure out what to do and that's it. There is nothing else to it. There is no signs that would tell you, where you should go. Like, you don't have to put a message on the screen to tell player where to go. Just put some signs, to show the path to the player via environment and that would do it. No interesting events that would separate this campaign from many other mindless representations of it's type, nothing like that. And then again, if that was not enough then your AI teammates almost always gets stuck. I don't know on what map I quit playing this campaign, cause I got so tired and frustrated of it that I couldn't continue playing. But I stopped after the elevator, that goes below the floor and you have to go down there and turn ON the panel. I did that, and when I got up, my teammates got stuck down there, refusing to get up with me, and when I got out, I got attacked by Hunter and killed. And since I didn't wanted to repeat all that mindless walking through boring labyrinth of corridors, I just quitted the game. Because, while you are winning it is fun to play, but right after you get killed and have to start over, the amount of frustration, anger and hate knows no bounds. Especially when you know, what this campaign is and how boring and mindless it is.

Also, from other cons that this campaign has, I would like to point out the lack of variety of weapons. And yes, I know that this was a thing in original Alien Trilogy game, but it doesn't work for Left 4 Dead 2, because this game was not made for that specific gameplay in mind, via configuring the pacing to specifically match Alien Trilogy type of gameplay. Thus why lack of variety of weapons, especially when there is shit tons of enemies on the screen, makes it even more frustrating to play. Especially in my case, when I also installed some Aliens themed mods, and iconic Aliens pulse rifle was modded over M16 rifle in my case. Cause I wanted to use that rifle but I can't because, instead of that rifle I got freaking SMG and Pump Shotgun, including with Magnum Pistol and throwable explosives and that's it. Sure, there is a grenade launcher that spawns every now and again, but in these tight corridors, I doubt that you can use it without harming your stupid AI teammates that always gets stuck and killed.

But I like this campaign A LITTLE BIT. Just a little bit. Cause it has the potential if done right. But here it is not the case. And despite how very little I like this campaign, after I stopped playing it, I have had massive headache. So yeah, here is where I end my review, cause I have to take some pills to calm my headache down. So yeah, in conclusion I rate this campaign as 4 out of 10. Cause like I said, the potential is there, but the execution is very bad.

Wow. Never in my life have I been so bored playing L4D2. This campaign is the embodiment of find the button simulator, you run around the maze-like never changing in style hallways as you try to find buttons, then keep running around this bloody maze until you think you've made progress and randomly stumble across the saferoom. This campaign is complete ass, called it quits after wasting 15ish minutes on chapter 2 trying to figure out where the hell to go and wandering around in circles. Some games should not be adapted for L4D2, that's for sure.

      Game over man,game over!!

Good: The creepy atmosphere like in the films.
Skins to make the specials look like xenomorphs.
                 No errors to the textures.

      Bad
It's too dark to see anything, even with the flashlight it's hard to see switches etc.
                 Some puzzles felt repetitive.
The finale was pretty easy not much of a challenge.
Needs more alien related things,eg the Queen, maybe the music/voices from the films/game?

I had fun playing it but it did seem to drag on.I hope you make more alien related maps in the future.

Alien + Zombies is bad combination

Completed in expert realism with only one friend. Guess we didn't really need bots x)
The initial pistols-only condition and the first horde was really unreasonable. The creator expects us to fight a horde with only pistols especially when the horde can sometimes spawn from behind the beginning area? That already made a bad impression to me on this map. The map really made me feel like I was in a spaceship, a ship so unfamiliar with that creeps me out a bit. Surrounding and some props were well made. However, the horde mechanism and events were really repetitive. I still didn't really feel that getting a battery would trigger zombies was a good idea at all. What's the logic behind? I didn't hear any alarm sound and don't see anything that would really trigger the zombies. If all the zombies were aliens maybe it made sense a bit, but it just didn't really match well. Personally I don't really like puzzle-like map like this, looking for key and proceed when you found the key and repeat, while fighting timed-horde. What made it worse was that the surrounding looked so similar! The finale was broken. The whole map, including the finale, has many horde spawn point that the horde will never be able to touch you unless you unlock the door or open something. Map is exhausting and repetitive, perhaps if you like aliens and spaceship, you can give it a go, or else it's a no no in my recommendation book. Some details in the map look fine though.

      4.5

      Pros:

      Survivors/Special infected have custom skins
The detail of this campaign was brilliant
      Very long chapters

      Cons:

Chapter 3 was glitched. To open the door we had to turn on the power switches. There was no indication of how many we had to turn on, so after wandering the room for what seemed like an hour, we turned on all the switches we could find (around 10), and the door still wouldn't open. Got very irritating so we went back to the lobby and skipped the chapter.

Chapter 4 was just as bad. We had to get a battery to open the door. After looking around for a while we couldn't find a battery to open the door.

      Conclusion:

What seemed like a very promising campaign turned out to be a huge disappointment because of the glitched chapters.

      Pros:

      Custom skins
Dark theme stays true to the Alien movie
Breakable walls add to dynamic effect and exploration

      Cons:

Chapter 3 - turned all power switches on, the main gate never opened by the tanks.
Chapter 4 - no battery to put into switch at start of level

      Conclusion:

Good effects but buggy game makes this not enjoyable after chapter 2

      Pros:

      Awesome
Extremely detailed- just an ungodly amount
Dark, gritty graphics added to the atmosphere
      Custom everything
      Special infected skins are epic
      Custom survivor skins
      Very difficult; great team challenge
Very long; took us over 3 hours
The supply distribution overall was quite impressive, it was cleverly and skillfully done
Incredible artistic work, beautiful in its own way
Excellent layout- extremely extensive, but still doable and able to be figured out
      Magnums, yay!
Breakable boxes, sometimes with items inside them
      Various rooms
Extremely varied chapters, each with wholly unique elements
      Queen model, alien egg models
Cave theme is quite underdone, but quite well done here
      Exploding barrels yeahhh
      Switches are easy to identify
CI and SI spawning are excellent

      Cons:

First and second levels NEED direction; we only got through it because at least one teammate was dead and spectating
Safe rooms bugged- players who didn't survive would spawn outside of them
Finale was glitched out- stand in front of the door
Difficulty might be too much for some
Dark atmosphere might be too much for some
Length might be too much for some- 6 very long maps
Safe rooms contain no items- not an issue personally

      Conclusion:

Wow!! Phenomenal map!! Simply amazing, I'm telling everyone about this one.

Expert recommendation is spot-on; the supply of defibs was clearly intended for those playing in expert realism, and thank you for all those (we needed them). The amount of magnums, too, really made this approachable.

The staggering amount of custom elements in this map really set it apart and make it visually impressive, but the clever layout and gameplay design seal this map as a truly great map. You're an excellent map maker, keep up the good work.

      8.2

      Pros:

      ========= In general =========
      + Good gameplay.
      + Items in destructable crates.
+ AI Navigation works pretty well.
+ Custom infected skins were acceptable.
+ Based on an actual existing game.
+ Also Tank skin was acceptable.
      + Long campaign.
+ Puzzles were not so difficult, but see Cons.
      + Destructable walls.
+ As redsf mentioned, good enemy balance.
+ Finale worked out pretty well.
+ Somehow loved the sharpened graphics.

      Cons:

      ========= Map 4 =========
      - AI sometimes get stuck close to pillars where items are placed.
      - Had to skip this map, see Conclusion.
      =======================

      ========= Miscellaneous =========
      - Quite bad lighting.
      - Can get boring sometimes.
      ============================

      Conclusion:

Map 4: somehow didn't find the other necessary switch... I think there was one switch, where you had to tap 2 switches at the same time, for SP impossible.

      Good campaign!

      Pros:

      - Based off the Alien movie series
      - New skins
      - Unique environment
      - Creative
      - Breakable walls
      - Breakable crates with items in them
      - Alien Queen
      - Batteries
      - Safe rooms
      - Map length
      - Looks like an old game

      Cons:

      - Bill still looks the same?
      - Needs more direction
      - Some elevators were glitchy
      - Not enough tanks and witches
      - How does picking up the gun start the rescue event if we cant use it? :/
      - No ammo/guns during the finale
      - Some maps looked the same

      Conclusion:

It's got some good ideas but it could be improved. Although it was meant to look old school, it could have been made more interesting with some different settings.Yet, it's still an okay campaign, just needs a few fixes.

      -Leafo campains rule.
      -Old School FPS.
      -Brilliant Idea.
      -Fun at certain parts.

      Cons:

      -VERY INCOMPLETE!
-This is your last campaign... WHY!?
      -Glitchy & Buggy.
      -Poor Quality Textures.
      -Very Dark.
      -Easy to get Lost.
-In the last level... Are the doors even openable? I found a battery and no switch. I had to noclip out!
-Leafo seems to hate valve due to the way he talks about em.
      -This has to be updated.
-SADLY UNDER-RATED By Some and OVER-RATED By Others!
-Pulse Rifle has to be made useable, otherwise dont add it.
-Campaign is SO BORING most of the time!
-Special Infected Skins would be better with new models.
-Lack of new sounds and soundtracks.
      -Lack of original L4D2 soundtracks.
-Serious Lack of Tanks... Only one tank in the whole game.
-AGAIN: Finale was interesting but at the same time it was stupid.
      -This campaign is broken.
-SO PITCH BLACK! Esspecially the Tunnel Areas and Finale.
-Film Grain seems to be a higher level than normal. ANNOYING!
      -So many time consuming moments.

      Conclusion:

Average Campaign... Needs updating! If your not gonna come back to finish this, then CAN SOMEONE PLEASE TAKE THIS CAMPAIGN, MIRROR IT, AND UPDATE IT! PLEASE!!! I want it finished. It seems so cool! I'm praying for the full release! PLEASE Leafo or anyone... I wanna see this completed. It's so awesome and when it first came out, I was like I CAN'T WAIT! But now I'm just plain sad to know that one of my favorite campaigns is being abandoned.

      Pros:

      Nice Design.
      Skins for specials.
      Skins for survivors.
Old school FPS style, Keys and all.
      Leafo campaign.

      Cons:

Had issues with keys not registering, Had to restart a few times.
      Had issues starting finale.
      Few other glitches.
      Last leafo campaign.

      Conclusion:

Its the same great quality from the silent hill map, but shorter and with a few bugs included. Its still worth a playthrough and its a shame to see you go.

      Pros:

      very original map
      nice textures
      nice skins on special infected
big map and alot to explore

      Cons:

      difficulty finding your way around
no arrows or markers telling you the right way.
      no tanks :O(

      Conclusion:

The good news is, This map is great, you did an amazing job with it, its very well done.
But I found that the buttons you have to push, you have no way or knowing how many you have left, so you spend most of your time looking for them, and the better part of the time is spent figuring out where to go.I spent alot of time running around in circles lol.
I to had trouble on map 4 where the door kept telling me that the power is shut down, I looked everywhere for another button, but couldn't find it.Maybe have the buttons highlighted like the ammo is, so they are easier to find and able to tell if one was missed. After searching for almost 30 minutes, I quit out of pure frustration....grrr....
Aside from my above mentioned cons, this is a fun map to play, especially with the mod and playing pyromania hehe. :O)

      Pros:

      -lack of weapons
      -dark
      -the Queen

      -it's just like the game
      -knife
      -riot shield
      -breakable boxes
      -skins for sp infected

      Cons:

-Sometimes Zoey is really glitchy and when you use the knife her hands gets f'ed up
      -only Section 1 :/

      Conclusion:

I honestly think u did a great job, you should really think about makeing Section 2

      Pros:

      -skins, of cos
      -map layout
      -details
      length

      Cons:

-map 1-3 looks waaaay too simlar
-ALL 6 maps is finding buttons to press
      -events are all the same
      -quite boring
-cant tell how many button you still need to press
      -ending is just... another room?

      Conclusion:

I dont think most of the maps even need arrows to tell you where to go, even this map.
HOWEVER, at least tell how many button/item you still have to find. That's quite stupid for us to get to doors which we cant open, and after we searh EVERY SINGLE INCH of the map, no more buttons/items can be found. And after we restart the map, it end up that door just being bugged. We DID what we need to, and the door just wont open.

Also, all 6 maps is jsut press buttons to win, nothing special, nothing more.

      9.9

      Pros:

      Silent Hill style.
      Excellent skin/model.
      Hard and challenging.
      LOTS of secret rooms.
      Hidden items.
Way too many pill/adrenalin, aid kid, defi, grenade... (maybe this is cons, it made the campaign quite easy at map 2 3 4 5).
Dark and blur, hard for observer to explore maps.
      Puzzles.
      Unique.
      No hint.
      Feel like in Alien movie.
      Made by Leafo.

      Cons:

      Lacks of great music/sound.
Lacks of Tank, should have at least one for each map. We only got only one Tank for the first 5 maps.
      Not enough atmosphere.
      Repetitive.

      Conclusion:

AWESOME F*CKING AWESOME campaign, among the best available to date !!!

WARNING: This campaign is a path finding one, do NOT play if you have no patience. There is NO HINT, you must explore it yourself. That is the value of the campaign.

Map 1 is really hard because it is obscure at first, and start with nothing but pistol, it also took us much time the most. But the other maps is quite easy, because there are soooo many things to grab, and straight forward. Especially map 5, not sure why he made this one that short.

Finale is great, works fine and got lots of secret rooms and ways there, but it is also lack of supplies compare to the others, so it is hard. When we reached this one, we were all in yellow or red health-bar.

In conclusion, this is really hassle and challenging campaign, but still much easier than Silent Hill. It took us ~3 hours to reach to the finale (played on Realism Hard). We found no bug yet. MUST PLAY if you really love L4D2.

To Leafo: This one is fully complete I think, so please come back to Silent Hill: Otherside of Life, I really love your mapping style, please finish it asap, and make more wonderful campaigns. Thank you very much for taking the time to create those.
