Good Clean Up Job Of A Good Old One

      PROS
      Good military atmosphere
      Layout is easy to follow
      Hard boss placements
      Good events
      Challenging finale
Well supplied in first 4 maps

      CONS
Bit of lag in Maps 1 and 3
In Map 2, just before climbing the rubble into the burning building, there is a glitchy patch right on the wall across the street.
Map 2 finale, the bots will try to teleport into the saferoom during the event
Finale needs 1 more ammo pile along the way
Map 3 had issues with bots deciding to stop moving and having to teleport to me later.

      CONCLUSION
I had fun. I haven't played the original version in a while, but I think I remember it lagging a lot more than this one does. The crash course van no longer spawns randomly, and in the Map 2 event, the bots will teleport out of the saferoom and help in this version. The only game- breaking part was in Map 2. If you hug the wall of the building across the street from the burning building, there's a patch where you get stuck. You can't jump or crouch, and throwing a bile jar at my feet didn't spawn a horde to kill me and restart, so I had to exit the campaign. Other than that, it was easy to run out of ammo in the finale.

Playable, but not necessarily worth playing

      Pros
      -5 full maps
-plenty of detail and believable environments
      -adequate supplies
      -decent map design

      Cons
-Recurring nav issues; especially in maps 4 and 5
-Overly excessive hordes in map 5
-Witches allowed to spawn during gauntlet events
      -Many unbreakable doors
-Reflections are messed up (they reflect the sky-box)
-Radio event (map 2 I think) didn't trigger when using the radio
-Some areas (especially map 1) show noticeable performance issues.
-Minor stuff like a ladder that was intended to be climbable, but isn't.

      Conclusion-
The campaign is alright; about borderline between me being able to recommend downloading it and suggesting that you skip over it instead.

What was probably a humble project now ruined

I wonder what the original authors are thinking now that their work has been desecrated...

      • i mean, i can't say, because i havent played this campaign in about 8.5 years. honestly, though, anything that kept the map updated and playable over the years is welcome. as long is this person didn't change major aspects and fixed some of the SUPER janky stuff(I'm lookin at you, levels 1-2 and the finale) then most of us are fine with it.

personally, I'm just happy to see it still exists.
      • @Trunten I worked on this, and yeah, a few teams(we had one team split into two per level) didn't carry their weight. I regularly moonlighted doing supplemental and critical fixes for other teams' levels. I was Team Lead and Level Designer(builder too) on level 4, and my team only consisted of me, a set decorator, and a scripter. Level 1 had about 10 people and the average team size not including my level was around 7. We only had one semester and I personally put over 550 hours into this not including play testing, so you're only half right. I was pretty disappointed in a few of the levels, and in the overall design of the missile silo(the structure of which made no sense but the professor made it - not even all of it, or any real texturing, just phase 1 geometry) and I had to make due and finish that too. Also, you need to consider this was made not only in one semester, but was only 1/5 of the average course load for those involved in creating it. This was also University of Baltimore's first attempt at something like this, so it was going to be rough. For example, the same course(diff students/semester) ended up making an oblivion DLC that Bethesda blatantly ripped off.
      • More like blatant theft.

      • being a college that actually created this for a project... maybe they should've have been a bit mroe careful and spent more time.
the little things they overlooked is rather embrassing... like being able to click on a change log to read with your own eyes.

      Abysmal

There's absolutely no redeeming qualities about this work. Fake difficulty, broken mechanics. Obviously a cash-in.

The university of Baltimore would be ashamed they were "credited" with this work.
