Dark Wood, along with Buried Deep and Wild Ride form the "triple crown" of custom campaigns for L4D2. My brother and I have enjoy playing buried deep for its long, but enjoyable maps. Difficulty can range from easy to hard depending on player skill level, but personally I would rate it as balanced if playing with a friend and hard if solo (since the bots suck tbh).
TL;DR: Stop reading this review and download it already.
Really outstanding campaign which combines with many games.^^
This is also one of my favorite campaign, which has many games' elements, such as Half-Life 2, Resident Evil and Silent Hill.^^ Each chapter of campaign has very high-quality design, such as the poison and electric machine in chapter 2, the whole laboratory in chapter 3, the blood prison in chapter 4, the grave and the church in finale.^^ Whole campaign is challenging and fun. Really recommended to play with friends.^^
By the way, each chapter of the campaign has some easter egg and custom weapons can be find.^^ I think it's a very creative idea.^^ Players who play with friends can try to find these easter eggs and get the custom weapons. It will be more interesting.^^
One of the best maps. Long and challenging.
The quality of the surrounding environment is very good and detailed. and it is fantastic that the difficulty is well adjusted to be challenging.
But there is one problem,, the Chapter2 is very long and difficult, but sometimes first-aid kits don't come out.
Too big, too long, too tedious, some good ideas though
-at least it don't crash
-bots don't get lost....much
-some good ideas
-1GB for something that don't look that visually impressive
-too long, tedious
-gets real boring real fast
-not enough flavor (guns)
This campaign is easily 2x the length and 4x the disk space, sadly way too long, too little weapons (sometimes we like to dump the Benelli m4 for the spas 12) and ammo and booooooring for what good ideas there are. A shame really, cause there are some good ones, like the Silent Hill inspired map4, which is also when the mod is the buggiest with AI and stingiest with ammo. Playing this in expert feels like a grindfest and a chore in normal.
Yikes... Not sure if you are a noob but guess you are. One of the best, most entertaining and diverse maps. Also you dont seem to get how filesize/textures work. This campaign has tons of custom textures and different levels... The problem is mostly with how VPK archives work, they are not compressed.

Great level design
Really loved the maps and the ideas of the overall campaign
Played like 4 times in the past few months and it was a blast!!
If you haven't played it you are missing out!
Thank you for all hardwork man.I still say you should include on site other versions of this campaign (like 1.5.1).I have multiple of darkwood copies. This way players can play vanilla and other ones.Like Error commented this campaign is definition of perfection.Nothing else to be said for master piece.Like those spinning blades in finale.Zombo steak anyone?''Momma told me not to play with fire but....we are hungry ''.
Campaign is very well done. Really cool references to other horror games. No major issues except sometimes it took me a minute to figure out where to go.
No major bugs or errors
Neat atmospheres and Lore
Plenty Of Supplies Throughout
Very Long (Took Me 2 Hours)
Can Sometimes Be Hard To Find Out Where To Go
The creepy atmosphere based on survival horror games.
The Easter eggs & secret weapons as well as the unique events were a nice touch.
No errors with plenty of supplies.
I know it's supposed to be based on games where it's dark but sometimes its so dark it's really hard to see where to go,even with the brightness turned up.
The event in the Silent Hill style prison was really confusing where to go to turn off the alarm that's triggered.
I'm not sure if it was the improved bots mod but the bots seem to refuse to enter the lift & I had to push them in.
It's a fun map to play but with bots it's pretty tough but I'm keeping it in my addons folder.
One of a kind. The details in this one are really good. The map is pretty long as well, get ready to spent at least 1 or 2 hours in this.
The only small gripe I have is that sometimes you have to interact with some switch to continue and the game doesn't highlight it, one example is the switch to open the locked cell in 3rd or 4th map. Also, try to open every door you see, sometimes some door that look to be un-openable can be opened, lol.
