not for singleplayer, unplayable with bots

no clue where to go specially when the maps are huge, bots do not pick up better weapons . i payed like one hour and was not able to find way, was moving in a circle no health kit at the startup . i have played all original campaign and many add on maps with bots on advanced difficulty and had no problem completing them but this map is totally not for single player
      • the first time i played this map i had to watch a video of someone else playing this map
      • I'll give you a little clue for map 1. The objective of map 1 is only to find 3 keys. 2 of the keys are easy to find. The last one lies somewhere & needs thorough exploration. & the healthkits are somewhere in the hidden location. One medkit is usually at the shop near the first spawn location.
      • As i said difficulty , low supplies are not problem for me , not knowing where to go and getting stuck in very 1st map for one hour is. may be i should play this map on easy just to remember the path and then replay on advance difficulty. Thanks 4 the advice...
      • Actually it's better to try this campaign in normal difficulty first, to memorize the paths & clues. I finished this in singleplayer in normal difficulty. The lack of weapons & supplies are hard for advanced difficulty. & unlike all original campaigns that are linear & all we need is just follow the paths to reach the safehouse, custom campaigns have more variable types, like puzzles, traps, labyrinths, boss fight maps, etc. This campaign traps, puzzles, & labyrinths at once so it's considered as a difficult campaign. It's better to try campaigns with easier puzzles, traps & labyrinths first before taking this campaign. Actually "Powerstation" campaign has much higher difficulty than this, because I couldn't finish that one in normal way, while I could finish this in normal way though it took very long time to find the clues & solve the puzzles.

Good for puzzle lover but no ending

I gave 3 stars because I can enjoy this map to most maps except the last. The puzzles without highlights really drove my curiosity to roam around the town & find some clues. & I can enjoy this map also because I used my own weapon & mutation mods that granted me melee & secondary weapons on first spawn on the map.
      .
The loss of 2 stars is because of the supplies, bots & last map. The weapon supplies are kind of low on early maps. The bots easily ran out of medic & on some maps we all ran out of medic & depended only on survival instinct. Second, the bots don't want to pick supplies unless you push them near the supplies. & the third & vital one is the last map. After entering the safehouse near the UFO, I was supposed to go to the final map. But instead, my game crashed or got stuck in loading screen. I even tried to manually typed "map mapname" to the finale to see how it would be like, but no luck. If someday the author comes back, I hope the finale can be fixed because this is one of puzzle-type maps that I like :) .
      • If you want to look for the other versions, type "leafo" in search column. Leafo is the author of this map. You'll find many versions there. Some versions have descriptions about the transition problems being fixed.
      • @Lukejason:
Did you use notepad or notepad++? Notepad++ has the feature to save the changes. Try to use Notepad++. But a note for me, you must count the characters correctly when doing some changes on bsp file. For example, "trigger_changelevel" consists of 19 characters, so if you want to modify to "info_changelevel" that only has 16 characters, you need to add some spaces so that the character count will still be 19. Just tap some spaces on the space before that word, & the bsp will work.
        .
Actually there are also fixed version of this Silent Hill campaign map here, that saves the effort of editing the bsp file of map 11. Try to type on the search column above. You'll find some versions & one or two of them have fixed the transition problem on map 11 :) .
      • hey, so I tried doing what you did with the bsp file. I was confused as to what I was looking for, so I opened them one by one and found that the ent file was the one I needed to change. I tried to change the trigger_changelevel to info_changelevel using notepad and/or wordpad, but they don't save the changes I did. What am I doing wrong here?
      • Finally I found the main problem. It's the bsp file on map 11. The command to the map 12 is supposed to be "info_changelevel", not "trigger_changelevel". I changed that & miraculously the transition from map 11 to map 12 worked well. I hope that this can help the mapper fix the map 11 :) .
      • Btw, I tested by modifying the txt file inside "missions" folder & found out that map 12 (finale) will work if the text is edited to desired finale. There are some optional finales & I've tried the real sh_12 map & the 2nd finale by editing the text. Maybe this campaign was supposed to give players ability to choose the finale based on something they did, or the finale was randomly generated after finishing map 11. I'll try to run map 11 to the finale tomorrow to see if the problem of no finale uploaded after finishing map 11 is because of the txt file inside the "missions" folder or not.

Good Design, BAD Scripts, No clue what to do.

First, No clue What to do. Just showing map with X. After walking around, we need searching some key? At least make them Glowing in specific range, not only glowing when you try to pickup them.
Second, All Survivor BOT wont Pickup anything. First aid, weapon, pills and other.
Third, No safe area. All infected attacking you even you still prepared on safe area. Doesn't matter you already open the doors or not.
Fourth, Special infected targeting one survivor only, They appear in same time. First time play, got charged > Charger dead > Jockey leaping > Jockey dead > Hunter Pouncing.

      Stop playing on second map.

      Not a big fan.

I'm rating the map a 2 star because of the fact that its finale was also broken for me and caused crashing... Plus, when i think of Left 4 Dead 2 i don't particularly have puzzles and key finding come to mind in a Point A to Point B zombie survival game, so i don't really consider it to be my type of map although others may like the challenge or repetative searching nature.

I love this map but some errors

I really love this map. Some enigmas, lot of Silent hill atmosphere, a long map with all kind of surprises.
Some problems remains and that's why I remove one star :
      - bots are stupids and don't know where to go or kill themselves
      - last map crashes ALL-THE-TIME. I managed to go there alone with a local server for 10 minutes, there were some glitches.
@admin : if you have some fix to give me, i'd love to have it and share with my friends.

      9.8

      Pros:

      -Creepy & dark atmosphere.
      -Foggy like Silent Hill.
-Feels just like a Silent Hill game, only with the style of L4D2 of course.
      -Puzzles.
      -Long maps.
      -Always keeps me interested.
-Not boring at all, despite many play throughs.
-The alternatives of levels is creepy enough in itself, the render of the darkness is amazing.
      -Lovely textures and models.

      Cons:

      -Bots aren't too bright.
-Zombies sometimes spawn in front or in back of player.
(Which is understandable to an extent, seeing how the atmosphere of the map is, confusing the director.)
-Could use a little more music from Silent Hill.
      -Minor bugs.
-Spawn points are a little off sometimes.
-Finale map crashes most of the time, not sure if that's just me, but worth mentioning in case.

      Conclusion:

This map has always been one of my favorites since L4D1, it's one I do recommend out of a few to those who are looking for new maps to play. It's better to play with 4 players instead of bots, since the bots tend to be stupid at times. I could never really get bored of this map, seeing as it's long and an adventure each time around.
This map is worth the try if you're looking for something interesting and different.

      Pros:

Same review, like the campaign "Silent Hill 1"

The world of Silent Hill is fully respected
The spirit of Silent Hill is fully respected
A lot of work. Conscientious work. Meticulous work. Very well built.
      Not too easy
      Long maps
      Not boring
The fog, like in Silent Hill
      No frills
      Puzzles
      Alternative worlds are great !
The enemies of the game (Numb Body, Siam, Armless Man or Lying Figure, Double Head, ...)
      L4D2

      Cons:

Same review, like the campaign "Silent Hill 1"

      not enough open doors
many bugs when the distances are large (the lengh of view)
      bots are very stupid
not enough music of Silent Hill
not enough ambient noises of Silent Hill

      Conclusion:

      For me :

      I love it !

Very good campaign ! very respectful. A big job.
It is a campaign made for fan of Silent Hill as "Silent Hill: Otherside of Life", I highly recommend these both campaigns.
Thank you Leafo, your work is a great pleasure !

Adding new models and new sounds for the specials of your campaign "Silent Hill : otherside of life", it would be great !

      4.5

      Pros:

      Incredible atmosphere
      Neat custom textures and models
      Challenging gameplay
      Puzzles
      Extremely long

      Cons:

Spawning is terrible- all spawning in plain sight
No L4D2 weapons like magnums and melee make realism near impossible
      Very scarce ammo piles

      Conclusion:

As a map, this campaign measures up to the rest of Leafo's excellent maps with great attention to detail and careful fidelity to its theme. The creepy atmosphere combined with the difficulty level make this a truly miserable experience (in a good way).

As a port, this campaign needs some serious attention and TLC. While dual pistols only is quite appropriate and expected in L4D1 versions, the changed game mechanics of L4D2 require some better weapons; the extremely rare ammo piles combined with the lack of melee and magnums made realism an awful and unpleasant experience. Opening up this map also revealed issues with the port; some zombie spawns were scripted as CI spawns.

The issues with the port made this an abysmal journey. CI spawns on top of players with no warning resulted in damage/incaps/death almost instantly on expert, and the lack of melee and magnums made it impossible to defend from these surprise hordes. No ammo meant that we relied on the dual pistols for headshots, which was pretty damn hard with their poor aim.

As a whole, this port is definitely not worth playing. It might be doable on regular campaign mode in normal or something, but not appropriate for higher difficulty games.

      Pros:

      -Well Scripted
      -HARD AS BALLS ON EXPERT
      -Perfect Atmosphere
-Gives a real sense of fear like original game

      Cons:

-Textures might not load from time to time (10% chance of this happening)

      Conclusion:

one of the better maps i've ever played I really recommend it

      8.5

      Pros:

      silent hill!
      loooong map
      fun with friends
      ghost witch!
      good visuals
      counter strike rifle!
good atmosphere (foggy, dark, just like silent hill)

      Cons:

      confusing as hell -0.25
      zombie spawns -0.25
glitchy (teleported me a few times) -0.5
final level is horribly glitchy! (see through AI and team mates.. should have spent more time polishing) -0.5

      Conclusion:

it would get a much higher rating if there weren't so many glitches, but fun map overall.

      9.5

      Pros:

Weapons are really scarce, which makes gameplay acceptably hard (pistols are usually easy to find)
Veeery long (it took me sth about 6-7 hours to finish it from start)
Survival is more important than shooting (meaning there is less "run & gun" than in original game)
Puzzles aren't that hard especially if you have walkthrough (I used it few times since I have never played any of Silent Hill games)
Very possible to pass it with improved bots (but nothing higher than Normal if you want to still have some fun from playing game)

      Cons:

Messed up zombies spawning (mostly on 7th map) - I had sometimes situation where I passed one place and after just turning around I had up to 20 wandering zombies spawned - too much fog? (-0.5)
From what I remember from SH walkthrough for L4D1 campaign, on 7th map it should be almost pitch-black - I had good lighting and very much fog, which resulted in awkward appearance of map (none points taken since it wasn't much easier)
On 7th map script still drops L4D1 Survivors' bodies (-0.1 since it's only small detail)
Glitches The Passing for me (none points taken since disabling addon works good enough)
Bots stumbling on doors - especially annoying on said 7th map (where you have one point of no return and I had situation with one bot behind that doors which permanently closes in one moment - good thing I could teleport it to room) (none points taken)
Bots doesn't take anything (excluding some pistols in normal world and last pickup weapons on 11th map) (none points taken thanks to Improved Bots mod)
Bad navigation on #4 ending (the one with cow and UFO) - bots have huge problems with getting onto roofs (surprisingly enough, infected also) (none points taken despite that I almost failed on 5th wave)
"Rescue arrived! Get aboard!" spam (actually, +0.1 since it looks funny :P)
Very unpleasant gameplay when Director will decide to spam Chargers and Spitters :/ (none points taken since it's Valve fault :P)

      Conclusion:

Great 6 hours, I really liked this campaign, big shame none of my friends doesn't even have Left 4 Dead :(
Don't count pros and cons, it's because of my character that there is much more - than + :P
Oh, and one advise: if you somehow got lost on map, always turn left - it worked for me - I was even surprised by how easy it was to find keys on 1st map, rest of campaign also wasn't that hard
In short words: play it - you won't be disappointed.

      ridiculous bots come on!

      Pros:

      + A full Silent Hill 1 game!
+ Hard! No melee! Except one axe.
+ Ammo and supplies are scarce, maps are long...so yeah, it SURVIVAL! In the true meaning of this word!
+ Very detailed, non-linear, big maps!
+ A lot of puzzles! Actually, ALL of the puzzles from SH1 are present!
      + Scary moments
      + Silent Hill music
+ Siren at the end of the alternative reality maps
+ 4 different endings! Hell yeah!
+ GREAT atmosphere if you play on realsim with friends!

      Cons:

      - Too long for casual players, so it maybe hard to finish it in one go if you play with friends
      - Bots are useless
      - Sometime zombies spawn
      - It's really easy to get lost unless you played Silent Hill 1

      Conclusion:

This campaign is both way too long and way too hard for casual player. So if you want to just derp around, then pass on, nothing to see here.
But if you are Silent Hill fan, this map will be a paradies for you. Oh yeah it is! It brings the very true Silent Hill experience - both survival and atmospheric! I strongly recommend to play it on advaned realism! It goes way too much freaking hardcore on expert realism and looses a lot of atmosphere without realism mode.
Don't forget to bring your friends to leave them alone in impenetrable fog/darkness and watch them struggle to find out which way they should go hehehehehehe

      6.3

      Pros:

      - Nice settings of the map
      - Great sound + music, makes it more real.
      - I like the puzzles
      - I like the finale idea where you can't see far unless you're close
      - Different kind of campaign style compared to the other maps I've played.
      - It was enjoyable.

      Cons:

      - Not enough weapon choice, kits, ammo
      - No melee: Would be good if there was.
      - Confusing parts: like what to do next or where to go.
      - Didn't really like the finale: don't know whether it was intentional or not, but didn't notify us when the rescue has arrived.
      - No ammo pile in finale: Would've been better if there was.

      Conclusion:

So, it's a pretty good campaign to play excluding how it's long to finish of the whole thing and plus the sound and music makes it fun. However, it's a map that I don't think I'd like to play again.

      8.6

      Pros:

      - very true to the silent hill theme, nice feel for it.
      - "helpful tips" to figure out what to do
      - challenging ( definitely not something played alone)
      - music really set the mood of things
      - traps to make things a bit more interesting.

      Cons:

      - glitchy/anticlimatic finale
      - no record totals for entire campaign
      - lighting, rather, lack of lighting on certain maps
      - puzzles can be a bit unclear

      Conclusion:

overall it was a great campaign and really fun but with how long it is, I'm not too sure I'd make it something to play frequently. my biggest bone to pick with the map is the "dark" maps as I now dub them, it was alright at first but it got really frustrating really quickly and pretty ridiculous towards the end with all of the ledges.

End of results.
