Good campaign with espionage sensations, but some traps are troublesome if playing with bots
After looking at some comments & reviews, I decided to play this campaign. I took about 53 minutes to finish this campaign. This campaign is playable with bots except map 2. It's not because of the bot navigation as the bot navigation is good enough to follow players. It's because of the traps. I'll explain the traps later.
In overview, this campaign applies some espionage features by adding surveillance cameras on most maps. The camera traps only trigger horde, so they're still friendly traps. Some other traps are more dangerous, like laser traps, landmines, & nuke traps, but still doable if playing with people instead of bots. The supplies are good. Even there are good primary weapons on map 1. The directions are clear, but certain areas need more instructions.
Let's proceed to map 1. Map 1 is about going into a military facility. There are some surveillance camera traps that trigger horde when survivors are spotted. The trick to avoid is to stick to the wall. Bots are hopeless, so if you play with bots, just prepare to fight horde each time you pass a camera. There are laser traps dealing great damage here, & behind those lasers there are propane tanks needed to blow a wall up. Only players can pick those propane tanks. However, there are some alternatives, like pipe bomb. If survivors have a pipe bomb, they can blow the wall up with that.
Then, there comes map 2. Map 2 is near impossible with bots. Why? First, because there are some landmines greeting survivors at area near the saferoom & bots will more likely step on them. The damage is very high, like if you step on it, your health will go red instantly or even get incapacitated depending on how close you're to the explosion. Once a landmine is exploded, a tank will come. Second & the near impossible trap to pass with bot is the nuke trap. There are some nuke warheads inside a room with some explosive barrels. Because bots love shooting spontaneously, they will more likely shoot the barrels by accident. One explosion is enough to incapacitate or even kill whole team no matter how far they are from the nuke trap. It's not recommended to play with bots on this map because the difficulty will rise higher & lots of restarts are needed to compromise bot's recklessness. There's also an electricity trap. Pipe bombs are somehow your best friends in this campaign, because the electricity trap can only be disarmed by destroying a control switch.
Map 3 is usually simple, but rather confusing because the lack of instructions. The visible instruction is just to go to the top of the building to turn on the highlighted generator in order to open the locked door on the ground. But in fact, there are like 2 generators. There's a cutscene showing about a door opened, but not a door on the ground. The elevator has more than one floor number on the switch, & that's not without a reason. Once survivors find all two generators & turn them on, the door on the ground will be opened.
Map 4 has several surveillance cameras. Bot navigation here is not good in the beginning, because they will fall & grab on the ledge when passing a very narrow path. This map is about turning on switches to open a locked gate & then going to an open elevator. Adrenaline shot is needed here to rush & arrive on time. There will be an instruction to run fast, & bots will more likely be left behind, so, it's better to play with people here.
Then, the finale is an escape finale, but harder than usual. Unlike normal escape finale, the rescue music will play as survivors press the button in a room with a surveillance camera. The rescue music playing means that survivors will face constant horde, special infected & one tank per kill (next tank will respawn soon after the previous tank is killed). Survivors may choose between climbing ladders or using elevator that's activated by pressing the button in the room before. Some vomitjars will be helpful here. There's a bot navigation bug at the rescue location where a humvee is highlighted. Bots just stand & don't go closer to the humvee, so players need either to kill/ let them die or push them closer to the humvee.
In short, this campaign is good for those who want to experience some espionage sensations & traps. 3 of 5 maps are not recommended to play with bots as the bots will increase the difficulty, like the instant-death nuke trap on map 2 which normally is still doable when playing with people but bots will more likely cause the instant death of the whole team by shooting the barrels by accident. Even I modified & reduce the trap damages on map 2 just to make it playable with bots (but of course the modified version is only for personal use). For people who love more challenges, traps & more challenging finale, this campaign suits them.
-This Map brings back a lot of good memories of the original metal gear solid game
-It's very accurate on how it looks and what happens in the campaign
-Good amount of weapons and is very replayable
-On top of the towers I went through alone the door shut and I died via a hunter, tank never died so the door remained locked
-Bots blow up the second hanger waaay to quickly
besides those two little issues I absolutely loved this map and can't wait to see what you do next (could we get a sneak peak? :D )
And secondly this campaign should have a couple of survival maps, it would work really well in various areas ^-^
Creative, unique map
Nice layout- pretty open but wasn't too easy to get lost in
Security cameras that would start hordes
Great creepy atmosphere
Very well-done interior areas, outside was very pretty
Rooms were nice
REALLY REALLY needs some direction
Bot nav on ladders- they fall down and die frequently
Needs more magnums throughout map- just first one in beginning
Unbalanced- chap 1 was very hard to navigate, chap 4 near end was unduly difficult
Never played Metal Gear Solid so I can't comment from that respect, but only from the map by itself.
This really is a great looking map, and has a lot of creative elements in it, but it really needs some direction. All chapters in general were pretty irritating to try and navigate around, and chapter 4 was worse- running around trying to find an exit while being chased by 2 tanks and a horde isn't too fun, also kind of impossible on expert. It doesn't have to be game instructor parts or voice overs or anything, just a few arrows here and there would have been nice.
Pretty nice map overall.
- No missing textures
- Levels put together in a relatively realistic manner.
- Tanks up on tanks upon tanks and in the most ridiculous places.
- Bots fail to their deaths in almost every elevator or ladder.
- Bots run off or get stuck or won't save you.
- Sometimes confusing objectives.
Waited 2 years for the bugged out electrified floor to get fixed. That was basically the only thing that was fixed. This campaign was far more annoying than fun. Bots are essentially useless. There are areas and even entire floors that contain no objectives or useful paths. Tanks are tossed around like confetti and in the most ridiculously annoying areas. It doesn't even lobby when it's over. You have to force exit. I ended up dying like 12 times. I usually play campaigns on advanced and may die once or twice. I had to dumb it down to normal a few times just to get through. I wasted my time to let you know not to waste yours.
-extremely nice designed level, that takes you to the most memorable places of MGS1 and 4!!!
-perfect enemy balance
-much re-spawn cabins
-good amount of supplies to make it challenging even in easy or normal.
-cameras alert the horde! Epic!
-very nice and bug free elevators!!!
-final is epic and challenging, even if the bots have trouble getting to it!
-as big as I am a fan of MGS, I must be neutral and so here come the cons. :3((
-bots are the stupidest I've seen so far! They die in nearly every map and also kill everyone in the second level very easy
-level 1 elevator alternative way is so buggy you'll die for sure with bots! On the upper exit of the alt. way the bots fall down very easy.
-skins for the survivors would been a blast, also weapon skins
-the electric floor need improvement very badly
-no extra dialog
I love MGS so it's kinda hard how much errors this level has, but the design nearly makes up for it and also the final. It's made quite perfectly and takes place after MGS4.
I really beg to improve this level, because the design and stuff is so good!!!
-Love the layout just like MGS.
-Opening cinematic was very cool especially if you have the snake skin for Nick.
-The communication towers were very well made and added a nice atmosphere to walk around them.
-Tank moments were very well thought of.
-Bots are lazy getting into elevators.
-Bots could easily blow up the nuclear facility on accident.
-Lack of fire in the furnace.
-A certain elevator in the furnace level before the diagonal one can only go up and down once so if someone was left you can't go back.
-No Metal Gear Rex!!! Although I understand that the model would be hard to make.
-Finale was so easy to run through and the tank behind the door with fire pretty much always dies before the door opens.
Besides all the cons I still make this campaign my number 1 for it's adventurous feel and great environment. I definitely recommend this to anyone whether they know Metal gear Solid or not. B-E-A-UTIFUL.
AMAZING Attention to Detail
The cameras? Very nice touch!
Can't shoot in the part 2 explosives room, just like in the game.
The scenery is amazing.
The corpse in the DARPA Chief's cell? Priceless.
Motionless birds in Part 2, not a big deal
Can't shoot in part 2 explosives room, meaning AI can kill you easily on accident.
AI issues on the second lift in Part 1.
No horde when you call the first lift.
This is an AMAZING mod. I am a big Metal Gear Solid fan. I would love to see a horde when you call the first lift, only because I was standing there, waiting with nothing to do. The cameras were a fantastic touch. I loved having to keep an eye on the ceiling to avoid the endless hordes that would ensue if you kept in the view. This is by far, my favourite level add-on and I will keep and treasure it forever.
Holds true to the MSG game.
Loved how the security camera's alerted the horde if spotted..
the maps detail was, just WOW xD.
Loved the instant in the Nuc warhead room if you shoot the tanks..
The bots are not as bad as people are griping about.
Just overall a great campaign.
Lack of health packs of the actual ration Locations.
Lack of guns/AMMO in the actual gun/ammo locations.
Lack of a final boss in the finale.
Lack of poison gas hurting you.
MSG HAD STINGER MISSLES, so a grenade launcher would have been a sensible addition.
Lack of two endings instead of the one.
Lack of a Minefield.
I could go on for ages.
Welp kiddies, as a Hardcore MGS fan you don't spit on a cupcake and tell me its frosting, I can see alot of graphic work went into this map but as for actual feel of the shadow moses, it wasn't there, my pros and cons say it all, I might be a bit to picky but cmon now, you went as far as to try to simulate MGS by being sneaky and the cameras, why not go the whole 9 yards, the fact that you didn't really hurt the score for this campaign, I'm sorry. 7/10
Holy damn, This was the game from my childhood. Brings back memories.
Layout is almost identical to how I remember it.
Tank's are in appropriate areas.
Shocked at how close it is to the game.
So much HD custom content.
Works great with other mods found on this site, Eg Snake, Pistol, And so forth.
Bots falling through the elevators.
Intense, Loving it. :D
I can see how multiplayer will work on alot of the maps, I can't wait to see it used more.
If only there was a Raiden mod, It'd be like his VR training he explained. :)
Overall I can't believe how well this is put together, The part with the elevator with the witch on the other end was surprising, This is a map truly worthy of a 10star rating. Fantastic :)
