      Epic

70% of the time it's a bit bland, and key searching can take 5~30 minutes, but overall it's great. Amazing details and atomsphere. Silent Hill OST also makes this campaign praisable. Recommended for experienced players - although it's not difficult at all, but I'm afraid that the surprising length will drive beginners crazy.

      Review

*REPOST FROM SOURCE Remember. Left 4 Dead 2 is not Silent Hill. It is very unforgiving when you die, the maps are WAY too long so if you die, you have to spend another 10+ minutes getting back to where you were. Bland design in some places (guess you can blame Konami) so it was pretty damn boring walking in a single direction, a straight line for the majority of the time. Very confusing were to go at times, guess you can blame me for not liking puzzles. The bot navmesh on the final map is a tad bit bad where bots seem to like going through the water rather than on land and end up drowning themselves. Also on the second last map I couldn't figure it what to do, it may be broken. i pressed the elevator button multiple times and nothing happened. Other than that, pretty grand. Custom textures were a nice touch, custom character models, special infected, sounds and some of the chapters had descent design.

Nice work and homage, but gripes exist

So... Is this a new revised version again from the v5.4? Because I have an issue with the v5.4... Whenever I see a spitter and kill it, it immediately and i mean immediately close the game down. I don't know why. And this is like the only map that I know is Silent Hill related. I play it a lot over and over (the version 4.7) until I become so used to all the craps and RNGs this campaign throw at me, and even the maps, and it feels... Somewhat satisfying, although still annoying sometimes.

This campaign is ridiculously dark (no matter what version it is) unless you have shaders on high or very high, then brightness all the way up. And since i'm only have a rotten potato pc, i have to play in darkness, which is fine, i can somewhat deal with it.

The survival aspect plus with the lord of RNGs is at play here is the highlight. No words can describe unless one experience it themselves. There are better reviews exist already here anyway.

I think that's all I can say/type here. Overall, it's a nice campaign for those that like Silent Hill homage and survival horror combine with L4D2 formula. Tell that to the creator.

This review was posted before the latest release.

      • On like advance or expert, this campaign is tough and merciless in early maps. But that's the lord of RNGs decision to screw the player over... Annoying, laughable, ironic, but whatever.

      • *Dropping... You cannot edit replies... Sheesh...

This comment was posted before the latest release.

      • That's the only difference? Meanwhile I can only play solo on Normal, and when i'm at that bridge part on map 3, when the slow walk motion triggers, I tend to run back immediately after examine the corpse, also pray my bots actually following me or I left them before triggering it. It's just funny when it happens, especially when a bot get punch, but survived from droppong into the water by hanging on the ledge. And i don't have any spitter mods whatsoever, so i don't know why it always close the game.

This comment was posted before the latest release.

      • also do you have any spitter mods? on steam workshop there was report about same issue.

This comment was posted before the latest release.

      • I only disabled slow walk trigger on the bridge in 3rd map in this version because for the 1st time I've encountered tank spawn there and we could only beat him becasue host was on normal difficulty, if we played on expert we would be doomed.

      An absolute nightmare

This is by far the worst campaign I have ever played and given that I have played over 100 custom campaigns, that says a lot.
No visibility beyond 30 yards due to the massiv fog, a broken skybox and constant searching for key items, which would be slightly less frustrating if the director wouldn't be spawning SI and random hordes all the time. Never having played any Silent Hill games before, I was having a hard time finding my way through and locating key items was an absolute nightmare.
The best part was just before the end of the first map, when I found myself in front of a locked door (again) with the key that was supposed to open it simply not existing (I've used the footage provided in the changelog trying to locate the key and searched the place for roughly 40 minutes - there definitely was no key), which had me bring up the console, shutting down the game.

      Not recommended.

      • Here you are, telling me to try Alien Trilogy...

I've played the Alien Trilogy games on PlayStation when they were new on the market and I've probably played the Section 1 campaign at least 20 times.

Collecting key items generally isn't the problem. The surrounding setup is.

This comment was posted before the latest release.

      • Looks like Silent Hill campaigns don't suit you. It's not a matter of fitting Left 4 Dead 2 experience or not, but it's a matter of taste. Try easier campaigns with item collection first, like Dead Island, Alien Trilogy. When you clear those campaigns, try Silent Hill campaigns again. Or just avoid any campaigns about item collection & riddle for your own good.

      • In the next update there will be minimap for map 3 (like in first SH camp.)

This comment was posted before the latest release.

      • I think I have played the original release of this campaign about ten to 15 times, but never had the nerves to get past the third map. I'll give this another go later today, but my biggest issue with this is the fact that the key locations aren't more obvious. The Silent Hill games certainly do have their charme, but their gameplay just doesn't fit the Left 4 Dead 2 experience.
Perhaps you could add some screenshots marking all the possible key locations?

This comment was posted before the latest release.

      • The keys location can be in a random place. Corpse under the bridge,by the restaurant, next to the digger,in the fridge under a small ledge by the window on the 1st floor.

I added videos of my run to help people out on finding keys.

Good but have time to spare

      Good

The improvements from older versions where there isn't weird flashing/contrast/strange textures.

More supplies being added so it's less of an endurance map.

Balanced commons/specials before it was near endless now it's less frustrating

      Hints so you're not lost

Some parts were less annoying than before to navigate like the lab.

      bad

The prison/underground area are still near impossible to see, also the fog in the town sections makes it very hard to see where you're going.

Adding extra keys to find adds to the frustration it takes to clear a map,the town parts I'd say was the most frustrating as you can easily get lost/fall to your death into the void. I like exploring but having a huge empty area plus fog gets frustrating to find where to go. Perhaps add some arrows or a safehouse symbol on some walls?

The map to get to the hotel was bugged I got 3/4 keys was able to crawl under the bar & reach the hotel.

The finale the bots ended up falling on the ladders & the platforms.

Ive played various versions of this & other Silent Hill maps.Keep up the good work.

      Review after last uzpdate

Tested on modded server with 5 player (10 player slot) and 74 smx, no conflict.
In map 3, where is needed to find new 3 keys to unlock saferoom, we found all 3, but we opened only 2 locks, one plank with lock stays, so we suicide and start again. after hard research, and obtain all 3 random keys again, we still open 2/3 locks, but upper was stay unlocked, and was possible to pass ducky under it.
In map 6, we search 1st keycard 3 times on all floors and courtyard outside, but was nowhere, weird was, we all time find it before your last update, and in logs u say u didnt change anything.
Finale is much better where finally i see CI and tanks.
Suggestion: Can you consider after some time if players cant find keys to highlight them, like in custom map Wan li.
(add a help system (full glowing) if you don't find the parachute bags after xy min.)
People leave server after to much search keys on open world map.

This review was posted before the latest release.

      • map 3 has 4 keys (3 from fence door and 1 saferoom's), map 6 has 5 random spots of each keycard, and yes it's original by Leafo, I didn't changed it yet.

      GG

played with a friend, it was epic.
It has many BUGs but that do not bother, levels are very long and complex, where you have to find keys and cards.
the campaign is fun and at times spooky, it took us 3 evenings to finish it, because after 1 long mission you got tired of playing.
The ending is a crazy thing, insane and BEAUTIFUL.
THX for adventure !! good job

It's about finding keys and paths, so patience is the key

This review was posted before the latest release.

      • "& you also pointed arrow at me, as if my comments & review was just based on players who lacked exploring experiences (which made you say "different people, different outcome)"." As if? You literally made this review pointing at less expierienced players. Throwing arrow doesn't mean reminding something somebody said but putting words/actions on someone never said/did before, and your running away from answering my "how people can't see something infront of their eyes" question is not arrowing. "What makes us different then?" - That you have "less exploring experiences" as you said and should level up by playing the map? You kinda answered it already in your question.
        .
"& actually when I got lost on map 3 in the 1st try" - So you're not that good? I can run it from side to side without getting lost, and yes that's a flex, sorry.
        .
Oh. And before you say "you putting words in my mouth" about it, well that was just decoding of your attitude towards people, at least I never doubted in people's abilities.
        .
And even before you try to throw another arrow at me about those spawns like I placed some them according majority's path choices and didn't placed them in more super hidden places which will make you want to say something like "so you doubt in people then?", I just point that I never wanted to make it ultra try-hard edition map, because there nobody in their sane mind will (but maybe you will as you suggested these places) place keys like that, this will just make the campaign less replayable.

This comment was posted before the latest release.

      • All your long replies still not only didn't prooved that you made more detailed hints than mine (but just slightly rephrased them), but you keep adding some more details (which still didn't include roadblocks cases) in the next reply and walking away from answering my question straight, and you keep trying hard to impose your underestimating people's thinking abilities to me, this is offensive, I'm not buiyng it. Oh, and I even forgot to mention that those "can't find the key help" replies was for v4.9 which didn't had newspaper and overviews, and those randoms who did beat the maps was also playing on v4.9. "those map previews in imgurl are more like cheats, I'm pretty sure that you got less complaints because of those imgurl images" - you mentioned in the beginning that these previews are NOT helpful, how then they can be considered as cheats? lol nice logic. And it's up to anyone to use them or to not, eventually there will be YT video from someone that shows all places and I have no control over it.

      • 1. So what if "your" people will see the pile of boxes and assume that it is the backyard? There might be locked door and how they will know if they need to go around?
        2. You mean they are the same? Then ok.
        3. So pointing at exact location here is not ruining finding process, but if you would pointied at Store's Backyard opposite side it would ruin?
        4. But you didn't said anything about paying attention in the room itself previously. Which means people are still going there.
        5. Not paying attention (or even wanting to go check there) to clear glass window that literally shows the kitchen's interior (and even backyard from 2nd window)?
        6. So it's easy to find a bus stop that literally located on the opposite side of the map, but previous locations that close to start you wrote which basically fused to already described in newspaper are hard?
        7. You really saying that people can't see that spawn by walking on sidewalks? Pointing at Gronland itself is enough to let people be awared.
        8. Parking area that literally starts with cars parked when you reach that restaurant is easy to miss? Really?
        .
On map 4 again you talkin' out of your own experience, I told about ALREADY HAPPENED playthroughs with random people from the past. Also the last key glow (I also made this key glowing, it wasn't back in previous version) are the same as on map 3's room and easy to miss.
"you seemed to try to make others think" - you started the whole "people" thing and now throwing arrow at me? You constanly tellin me assuming "people this - people that", when I only told my observations.
"It will feel like you're insulting someone with that emoticon." - This emoticon doen't mean "fun" and it's not even laughing, it means "well idk", nothing insulting here.
So now I need to turn this campaign into "Average exploration skill" maps? That wasn't my idea at all, it would be too boring. I believe that people should train their skills.
        .
"why don't we make a new challenge then, update this campaign again & change the locations of the keys on map 3 & 5" - Are you serious? This is makes no sence, people started to remember places from previous experience and will need to do it again? Nice idea. I spent pretty good time placing the keys not too visible and not too hidden in same time on map 3, and there's no good places left at map 5 beside those buildings, or you asking me to place the keys in the cars or between trash? This is dumb. Some places are based on people's walkthroughs and some rare places that people go to but still visible enough if they eventually go there through the fog. I even removed one roadblock from cafe to clear a path to the bus stop.
"Count first, help them later." - already counted few, but majority (from my random connections to the games) still has no trouble finding places.
"If the comment section is filled with only few questions & complaints, it will mean that map 3 & 5 are not as difficult as I said" - What stops people from making these comments now with existing locations? So basically this challenge is going on already, and I don't see people complain that much. But you can call your friends to bomb the comment section.
"I'll revise my review about those two maps as well as adding one more star." - I don't care.
        .
Don't speak for all people basing on your friends, and, please, don't tell me what to do, ok?

This comment was posted before the latest release.

      • "The map preview alone at imgurl is not helpful enough" - If you enlarge the image you can literally see the exact places. Once again: they marked from Hammer's top view of those func_button positions.
        .
        Let's compare.
        .
        Your exact locations:
        1. The store backyard (look for pile of boxes);
        2. The park across the store;
        3. The parking area across the gas station (the backyard);
        4. The apartment on 2nd floor;
        5. The cafe (kitchen room);
        6. The bus stop;
        7. Gronland (around red house);
        8. Parking area northwest of the Gronland (I forget the name of the restaurant. The parking area, not the tables).
        .
        The newspaper:
        1. Store's Backyard
        2. Konami Burger's Park
        3. Parking near Gas Station
        4. Apartment Complex
        5. Cafe "5 to 2"
        6. Bus Stop "Give Blood"
        7. Gronland's Park
        8. Rec Burger's Parking Lot
        .
        Differences:
        1. Same as newspaper, except "look for pile of boxes" - there's no key among the boxes and they are laying on the opposite side of the small gate which can be blocked sometimes, also people often go to the parking lot (which leads to that backyard) on the left from the tunnel exit.
        2. This might be only one more detailed, but that park is almost fused to the Konami Burger's place.
        3. Same as newspaper, "the backyard" - it's literally fused to this parking lot, and people always checked this area before.
        4. Same as newspaper, except pointing on exact room, but to be honest I've never seen anyone passing this room by, people were always walking there.
        5. Same as newspaper, but at least I described the name of the needed cafe, "kitchen room" - how is it possible to not go there when it's clearly infront of the player's sight?
        6. Same as newspaper, but at least I described the banner on that bus stop which is very noticible and people can remember it from "No Mercy". And you could write the direction to this bus stop to be more detailed than newspaper.
        7. Same as newspaper, "around red house" - it's the first thing people will notice if they go to Gronland from main entrance, and if they walk there from the cafe the key will be right infront of it, or in general it's literally on the sidewalk people always walking on, how could somebody pass it by?
        8. It's way easier to notice Rec Burger sign or at least the typical looking fastfood restaurant, and path to Gronland from the cafe also can be blocked sometimes, in which case the only way to this restaurant can be straight up the road from the apartment complex's parking lot. "The parking area, not the tables" - it's all located in the same small square area and people always checked every car/table there.
        .
So in conclusion, people should have no problem finding the keys if they will actually read the newspaper and will pay attention to signs/areas.
        .
"Map 4 is actually not that hard" - I'm glad that it's not hard for YOU, but why pointing on your "level of exploration" when I told about OTHER PEOPLE already had stuck there?
        .
Those observations are based on various playthroughs with random people from old versions to this version, so it's obvious that "different people, different outcome" is fair to say. This version is indeed not so singleplayer-friendy, unless you are experienced with labyrinth maps. I didn't played Lazar Castle yet, but in RE sometimes when I connected, people were walking around not knowing what to do (some people has director's hints turned off).

This comment was posted before the latest release.

      • "Map 2 has no update" - Well actually do, they are not so noticible, but still, few brush/prop fixes, some supplies placements now "must exist", and the hint in the circle wall trap.
"I think I'll give some clues about the exact locations." - But you just wrote all places almost word in word from newspaper, what's the difference?
"Map 4 is about finding keys in the hotel. The path is clear." - Clear? There's no hints or clues where to go, a lot of cluttered up rooms and easy to lost between same looking coridores. Some people got stuck there when I played with them.
On map 5, the places which contains key-spawns are the only 2 enterable buildings and sidegates on final bulding. Each time I played on this map (even before I added the key), people would go there all the time (or maybe is it just me got lucky with those people?).

Well, as I said before: different people - different outcomes... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
