Another campaign I forgot to review

Pretty mediocre. I can't believe that this kind of poor design is from an unfinished official campaign. The previous 2 maps are about troll and confusing stuff, while the finale is boring and repetitive.

This is not good for single player mode

It was fun until bots started dying in fire and drowning. They can't survive map 3 at all

      Stable and good for beginners

Out of all the Dam it versions, this one proves to be the most stable iteration. There is one small bug when the player presses Tab to see their stats, the thumbnail for the second map is greyed out. The finale leaves a lot to be desired and amused me with how easy it was.

This review was posted before the latest release.

      • the thumbnail for the second map is just an error in this build. its will be fix momentarily.

      Review

Hmm, this version of Dam It reminds me a lot of Huckleberry's version before he went and deleted everything, this one, compared to the Remastered version has more hordes and tanks for you to deal with, not too many, but there's certainly more of them. Very well supplied just like the original, the finale is different and very short as you can run to the end if you're quick enough, get past the tanks and escape in Blood Harvest's rescue vehicle this time. I think I prefer the finale on the remastered version personally, as it was more unique and clever. Not much else to say, this may be a slightly more challenging version of Dam It, but I personally recommend the Remastered version over this.

      • No I didn't. I gave a negative review to a crappy upload by Dave (nothing new there) and you + ricepaper-skin jumped down my throat. So I told you what my previous username was so that you'd know what a bad idea it is to be jumping down MY throat.

        I bite.

And now here we are, history repeating itself, and you traded Huck for Darthded. Thief for a thief.

This comment was posted before the latest release.

      • just seeing if I remembered correctly... you understand it was a long time ago.
didn't know you if and I had anything personal.
so i guess it's just a guilty by association thing... as I can't remember us chatting much.
all i remember is you randomly contacting me out of no where one day with formal introductions and such.

This comment was posted before the latest release.

      • also, you're more than welcome to look me up else where, contact me else where, to continue chatting.
i'd rather not annoy Error or Akira with unrelated comments.

      • I repeatedly said it many years ago that Huck should not be allowed to touch and upload anything, but you didn't listen.

Back in the day, Dave was Huck 2.0 but it wasn't as obvious because there were still plenty of active TALENTED mappers around, so his trash often ended up at the bottom of the pile. Once those mappers moved on, we were stuck with Huck V1 and Huck V2. And Huck V2's no-talent shone through very brightly.

But it will probably take you another 5+ years to realize that. By which time it won't even matter anymore. Because just like last time, the damage is already done.

This comment was posted before the latest release.

      • As far as I'm concerned, Dave is worse than Huck. Huck is and always was a troll, and he didn't try to hide it. On top of being a useless modder.

Dave is equally useless (his so-called revivals and edits are just as broken as Huck's), but his skin is thinner than rice paper and can't handle any form of criticism. Which makes him a far bigger detriment to the modding community than Huck, which is why I avoid his uploaded trash like the plague.

      • Crowley, I honestly don't know what your problems with Dave are, but I'm sorry, I say he does a better quality job than Huck.
At least on a mapping editing level with 'fixes" and "ports" he is clearly more professional in my opinion.
Whatever else you'd disagree about him seems to just be a difference in opinions or something you two simply disagree on.
No disrespect intended, I just don't understand or see what the problem is with him, sounds like it's just something personal honestly.
Dave truly does a better job cleaning up maps around here so I don't see any reason gt rid of him.
Unfortunately though, Huck still at least one account laying around here (his main) so it could definitely be gotten rid of at least.

This comment was posted before the latest release.

      • well technically they were the same, his just broke more than it fixed as usual which inspired my own.
then after Jake and I did our own direct straight port just simply L4D2 compatible we got this and "remastered".
basically we all just felt and agreed Dam It deserved better compared to the half ass job Huck always does.

This comment was posted before the latest release.

      • I think i should've said TRS' version and not Huckleberry's version hahaha, my bad.

This comment was posted before the latest release.

      • Huck never had any association with 'complete" or "remastered".
All the broken mess he caused in his modification is most likely what lead to my "direct port" and inspired "complete" and "remastered".
Trying to compare this to Huck's is an insult to an injury and offensive as Huck isn't even an amateur at best.
Remember, all he does is take other peoples stuff and makes changes literally anyone can do like replacing missing content.
And sometimes he can't even do that properly.
I seem to remember the one problem I had with Dam It that lead to my own was he broke the fire barricade event at the dam.

      A Punishing Campaign

This campaign is brutal with bot players. Their response time is not fast enough. They stand and don't do much of anything when there's a horde of zombies attacking them. There are probably too many zombies attacking at once. The bot players can't climb down the ladder inside the tower in the second map without one of them falling off the ladder. They walk into fires and almost die. There are only two or three extra health kits in this campaign. I don't remember seeing one melee weapon in the first map. All the scenery in this campaign looks like it's from Blood Harvest. The second map is a dead end if you don't climb to the top of that tower and activate a remote control after you activate the generator on the ground. I really think there are too many zombies in the last map. The zombies and the Tank all start attacking at once. The finale is still more rewarding than the finale in Dead Echo 2. The bot players can climb into the back of that APC vehicle and escape during the finale. There are different versions of this Dam It campaign. I think Dam It Remastered is better than this version. It has more Tier 2 weapons and supplies.

      • They don't walk into those fires and almost die in Dam It Remastered.

This comment was posted before the latest release.

      • I don't use any bot mods. That area with the fires on the ground after the plane crashed is more deadly than the same area in Dam It Remastered. The bot players don't walk into those fires and almost die in Dam It Remastered. I do think the finale is better in this Dam It Complete campaign, but there is a lot of graphics lag during the finale. Some campaigns just have graphics lag. I remember playing a map called Train Yard. That map had a lot of graphics lag during the finale. It's just one map. It's on the Steam Workshop.

        Edited: November 2022

This comment was posted before the latest release.

      • Did you use some mods or plugins that improve bot's abilities? I tested without any bot mods & the bots reacted to the zombies & shot as usual. But I agree that at the area with randomly generated fire, the bots are just the sitting duck as they take the huge burning damage for no reason. At the tower where there's a button to press, bots sometimes jump & get limped for no reason. For melee weapons, during my play I saw some on the ground, probably just rare.

      Excellent and fun campaign

      I really liked this map.
He has his difficulty well advanced, but nothing that prevents him from proceeding.
The end had to restart for 3 times, but it was not frustrating, it was challenging and this happened because we were not understanding that the instructor showed us a rescue car and we thought the rescue was a boat (...) and we ended up going places wrong.
-The distribution of weapons was very good, at each point of weapons a great variety and this is very rare in maps created, congratulations for that.
-But I thought there should be more stacks of ammunition or more melee weapons to spare the ammunition.
-Anyway, I loved this campaign and it is already among my favorites.
      -Thank you and congratulations.

      Pretty good until the end.

I agree with the comment below - this was a really solid upgrade from the raw Dam It maps - a lot of the unfinished details filled in....but....the last chapter is not that fun once you get to the top of the dam. Non stop tanks is a drag, and I did not like the sign at the end directing you to the awkward stairs and rush of SI.

Hope you like to run away from randomly started fires

This is a decent attempt at recovering and finishing a piece of Left 4 Dead history, but its balance of supplies ranges from "shower of guns" to "everyone is black and white". What is doesn't lack, however, are panic events (car alarms) and explosive barrels and canisters littered around the maps to trigger said events by careless shooting. Right after that you may run into crows, have fun. The fires from the numerous barrels and gas cans never stop to burn your heels, and if that wasn't enough, there's a completely random bombed forest which apparently houses several gateway straight to the Burning Hells, which seem to have no obvious pattern. I will keep this campaign in my watchlist until the next update before I recommend this to my picky friends.

      congratulations

I beat it on expert, i have to say.. overall you did an amazing job at completing a piece of l4d history. everything is near damn awesome but i have just 1 complain, for some reason the special infected rate (at least when i played) was waay to high to be enjoyable in some parts. other than that you did an amazing job.

The proper way to port a map

Best port of this map uploaded on Gamemaps.

      Don't bother with the others.

      • yea, saying the least, we got stuff to catch up on, we should take this private if you want to. it was nothing personal.
i regularly go thru my steam and twitch and clean them and remove anyone who appear inactive in various ways.
removing you could have been accidental... i've removed plenty of "popular" people.
you mention sophia, she could tell you I've removed other mutual "popular" friends due to drama or other reasons.
and I don't boast. but while you bring that up...
when i browse the l4d2 channels on twitch i look for people playing custom content.
most of the time i feel there's too much stock or versus or competitive players.
nothing wrong with that, but i prefer custom content. you knew that. you knew i was in this modding scene.
so when i see people warming up and being new to custom content, i offer to share what i enjoy... Neji's not the only one.
but i'll give ya that, you knew i'd reply.
because like i said, i figured you weren't aware of why my version and others were why they were.
but as far as sophia, unless she's changed channels... she doens't seem "popular" any more either.
but i kept her for multiple reasons. one being she is familiar with Linux and I've been thinking about giving it a try some day.
i think we had mutual friends in common and crossed paths else where when we met.
that's all i'll say for now, we can continue this some where else if you want

This comment was posted before the latest release.

      • You should, considering you removed me from everything connected to me including Steam group, steam friends, my friends, and twitch.

Yes, it is an opinion. I've played several versions of this map including yours and Herbius.

If you wanted to catch up, then you would've wanted to several months ago as I see you're riding on Nejinerd now, boasting about your maps onto his channel as you did to my twitch channel.

I understand you only follow and speak to people who are popular and up to date such as Sophia otherwise you would've removed her by now as well, and we both know why.

This all seems harshly spoken but it really isn't. I knew you were going to reply to this comment because I know what kind of person you are.

Not much else to say to you, enjoy doing what you're doing.

This comment was posted before the latest release.

      • also, "best" is just opinion/favorite.
other people could still prefer the "remastered" version for its different ending like this one did.
anyway, just saying... in case you are who I think you are.
seemed like we had time to catch up on.

This comment was posted before the latest release.

      • really my dude. and I think I know who you are, I still remember you.
thought I explained the reasoning behind why mine was the way it is.
oh well, at least you played one you were happy with.

as is tradition, a fine port

A good port and completion of the abandoned Turtle Rock Studios campaign.
Featuring an ending that is acceptable considering Blood Harvest's rescue.

      Damn,it's challenging

Good: I've heard about this abandoned project from TRS,was curious to try it out.
No errors or glitches while I played.
Interesting events like the dam filling with water.
               Supplies were balanced.

Bad: Hordes seem to more numerous than usual, the endless horde at the end was the worst part. It took several attempts to reach the rescue vehicle.
The final part with the dam etc was a nice touch but the only way I was able to finish it was using a couple of bile bombs, some adrenaline & luck since I was playing with bots & they're useless.

I'll add my video of me doing a run,it's weird that this was never finished but I'm glad it's now playable, good work.
